Has anyone made a Gladiator-class model at 75% scale?

By xanderf, in Star Wars: Armada

Just something that bugs me about the Gladiator-class...between the size of the hull panels, as well as overall mass of it, it just looks so... oddly oversized.

Especially compared to the Arquitens, Gozanti, and Victory - where the hull tiles look right for their scale - the Gladiator is just... way too big.

Nevermind that it has the same hull as the Arquitens, but dwarfs it.

I dunno, the model just seems...too big. I'd guess a 75%-scale version of it would look more appropriate? Has anyone knocked out a 3d model like that?

I've not seen one, but I do agree that the Glad looks oversized for what it is supposed to be.

My Glad, bigger than a bridge.

Your glad, looks like a little kid's.

GSD is oversized for a 5 hull ship.

Solution, use Motti - then it isn't oversized that much for a 6 hull ship.

But then if Motti dies you will need smaller versions of all y..... I'll shut up.

The hull comparison is really just a data point - it's the aesthetic of the hull panels that really feels the most 'wrong'.

I agree the proportions look off. The guns look extra large compared to the Vic and ISD. Painting it can help make it look better.

Happen to got some pics showing a repaint helping with that? Not sure I've seen many folks repainting a Gladiator with a goal to fixing its scale issues - but I can see the concept working...

I'm not a great painter and have not tackled painting the ships. Just squads. But one of the guys I play with has painted his Glad and it looks really nice. I'll take some pics next time I see him and post it here.

Mel has one in 1/7000 scale, making it 7.2cm long. Not sure how that compares with the Armada Gladiator, but I think its at least a fair bit smaller.

I need me one of those.

Every ship with a "Star Destroyer" in title is supposed to be big.

What have you done! The glad was one of the few ships I was happy with the scale (unlike the Cr 90 and fighters) and now I know that you are right. It IS badly scaled.

Utar seems to have an 1/7000 Gladtiator too:

Eh - looked through his postings to the 3d printing sites, and I don't see a Gladiator from him.

Mel does have one, but...I'd actually be interested in seeing how the 1/7000 looks next to the VSD (and/or stock FFG Gladiator model or Arquitens) before plopping that kind of cash down on a replacement (nevermind the time to repaint it...*blech*, I hate painting...)

it was oddly oversized for it's capabilities even in the Droids Show where it originated. given that it appears to be focused on missiles and fighters in that, presumably the large size could be rationalized as it just having a very large area devoted to the hanger and stores of missiles.

Always bugged me why the gladiator looks like it should be a light carrier yet is not suitable for pushing around squadrons.

Anyone have a size comparison of the 1/7000 and FFG Demolishers?

Considering how much damage it puts out i'm oddly okay with the size. I think this is an example of power pushing model size.

Imagine a ship the size of a CR-90 with expanded launchers and concentrate fire a demolisher launching two red dice and five black dice into the side of an assault frigate and crippling it.

That would be the other way to go. For someone to redesign the model at the same size, but fiddle with the details so it looks like a bigger ship rather than a smaller ship.

Indeed - mostly just re-sizing the hull paneling to be smaller, and reducing the size of the gun turrets. That would, basically, do it.

Figured it would be easier to find someone that took what was already here, and scaled it down, though - rather than the alternative of taking what is present and just 'changing the details'.

Scaling it down would be more accurate considering Gladiator is 600 meters while Victory is 800 meters.

If you tell me the length you want it I'll scale it.

I just stated the length above you.

I think he was asking for a model length - ostensibly, the Victory is 1/7000, already, so his 1/7000 Gladiator is "to scale" with the Victory. That may well be exactly what I'm looking for?

(And definitely, I'm now aware of that one - 3d version of model looks great! Curious to see how it actually looks , though - on the table, painted, compared to the FFG Gladiator and Victory...)

Mel could you scale your XQ-4 Platform to be 13cm wide instead of 8.2cm so its scale 1/7000?
