So I am interest in getting some scenery and a gaming mat to make the most of Runewars. I am hoping to head to salute this coming weekend and see what I can find but does anyone have any recommendations?
Scenery advice
As far as brands I have no opinion. My only advice would be to keep the game rules in mind and make those rules a purchasing factor. If you can't decide how to rule a certain piece of terrain(I.E. elevated, cover, some house ruled keyword) then it probalbly isn't something you should pick up.
My brother-in-law has some Hirst Arts molds, so I will try to build the ruined tower - it looks fantastic!
But I think transport will be difficult. Cutting custom terrain out of foam may be easier? I'm not sure. This is my first foray into this kind oh hobby, too.
I would also suggest tracing the outline of one of the existing terrain pieces to use as a base for the terrain. Much like obstacles in Armada and X-Wing, I see the shapes and dimensions of terrain being a big deal in Runewars.
Also, if any even more helpful to just try and base what you make on existing terrain pieces. For example: trace the outline of the terrain "crumbling wall" and use it as the base for a ruined tower, and just have it count as a crumbling wall.

I'd probably shoot to make it just bit smaller than the terrain template and put it on top of the template. That way you can easily remove the fancy terrain if needed.
Ultimately, FFG made another 2D game the uses 3D models. Some things would just be easier logistically if everything was just flat cardboard. It wouldn't affect game play at all, it just wouldn't look as pretty.
