Is this a bump?

By TgLoki, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Please excuse the poor pic quality. So here is what happened. Bobba fet does a 3 turn. We marker the u wing to do it properly and then place the U Wing back in place. The U wing fits in perfect but is touching Boba. Its a perfect fit!

So is this a bump? Can Boba shoot? Does Boba even make the move or is he meant to be put back?

As I was getting smashed anyway we said Boba made it and still shot.

No. The ships did not overlap and thus they are not 'touching', as per the rules.

You played it correctly.

The base went down with no problems means there was no overlap/bump. If there was no overlap then there is no "touching" and everyone is free to target the other.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up

The idea of the "Bump" comes from that we're playing a game that takes place in a virtual 3D space but on a 2D board. Ships that bump from what would've been an overlap cannot shoot because, in theory, they are above or below the other one so they can't shoot as they pass. The Bumper looses their ability to take an action because, in theory again, their "action" was swerving so as to not hit the other ship.

To say it another way: If the maneuver could not be completed (due to another ship in the way), than it is a bump.
