Is anyone else out there obsessive enough to want to paint all your miniatures before you play the game with them? It certainly makes it easier to spread out my purchases knowing that everything I buy will need to be painted before I can use it.
Paint to Play
Nope. I am willing to play with unpainted models. I want people to have fun!
Only time unpainted models bug me is when you've had ample time to paint them, and just didnt.
Had a guy that played 40k take months between painting...one model...so 90% of his army was gray then random 1-3 painted guys. THAT bugged me lol
Especially when it comes out i could care less, in fact i'll even partially assemble them if i think the model's pose will be an issue to paint fully glued lol.

To each their own.
I admire your willpower!

haha... we'll see! It'd be a pity to spend months painting a core set only to find I don't enjoy the game.
By all means go ahead and play painted or unpainted. I think these models are simple enough that a lot of people, novice or otherwise, can get striking results with just a base coat and some shades considering the infantry is viewed in a cohesive block unit.
I'll try to paint all my models. But if i can't get ready in time, i will play with unpainted models too. But trust me with all painted minis it feels much better to play
In games like 40k etc I've always thought of it as much more of a... hobby than a game, I've always felt that you needed a fully painted army before playing, yes.
But Runewars to me is more of an actual game (a ruleset that couldn't be described as being looser than a wizard's sleeve, goes a long way towards this), and so I feel that unpainted is more acceptable.

I really do love the design work that went into these miniatures. They're fun to paint and easy to make look really good. I think this game is going to get a lot of people to try their hand at painting even if they normally wouldn't.
Not ever. So much on the paint desk, I'd never play otherwise. I do put in effort to paint up what I'm currently playing, but I don't require myself to do so
I will tackle a unit at a time. So my army will be patches of unpainted and painted. Once the base undead set is done, my purchases will be minimal. So it'll be easy to keep up
I love playing games.
I HATE, with an everburning vengeance and fury, to paint.
Ill be playing with unpainted miniatures until I find someone who will paint for me at a basic tabletop standard for an reasonable amount
I really don't enjoy painting so far, so there's a good chance mine will be unpainted.
I can totally play without painting, that said I have already painted all of my minis for Runewars because they just pop so well on the table with how I did Daqan. I've always liked their blues.
I'm like you OP, I really hate playing with unpainted minis, but let's be realistic here!
I've nearly finished my 16 spearmen, and I'm planning on finishing Daqan pretty fast out of the gate, then taking my time with the Skellys. I think it's wise to ride that initial wave of excitement and use it to get some paint on plastic. Also, I'm leading the charge on RMG in my area, so showcase games at X-wing nights will be a lot more enticing with two beautiful armies facing off against each other than a sea of grey...

I started skeletons first, thinking that mistakes would be easier to cover up. Finished my first one last night... so many to go.
The game would look so much better if everything was painted but if I didn't play until it was all painted it would be years and then there would be loads of expansions to get and add to the painting list
Theres also a sanity check involved.
Part of the reason my Tau arent fully painted (probably about 80% of about 2500USD worth of crap) is the method i was using to paint them was horribly inefficient so it took forever to paint a simple crisis suit, which while being a larger model than basic infantry its still pretty small compared to just about everything else. And because any alternate paints or tactics i came across made it look noticeably different from what i already had painted i REALLY didnt wanna change my strat so my army stayed looking the same.
As a result i'd paint like 3-4 models a month (not including firewarriors i'd batchpaint the whole unit in a week since theyre easy). And then i'd go through months long "i dont wanna paint" fits as a result to the horribly inefficient way i was painting. Im hoping when i start painting next week on these guys i'll have a scheme i can paint quickly and still look great. Much as i hate Warzone Resurrection right now, i still absolutely love my Wolfbanes because of their paint scheme being uber quick/easy to paint and looked amazing.
Absolutely, painting in batches is the only way to stay sane!
I follow the good old fashioned prime; preshade; base coat; ink; highlight steps.
With wine.
Painting with wine is very inefficient, it had low coverage and the white hardly shows at all. I would suggest paints or inks instead
OK I'll show myself out...
i refuse to let any kind of alcohol be around miniatures. Even if its not intended to get drunk with.
I cheat. Work lets me paint as I take calls so I have all the painting time ever.
I have no problem playing boardgames with unpainted models, But miniature games of this natue is so much more fun to play on a crafted table with real terrain and painted armies. I am a slow methodical painter and I have far less time these days to paint so I have only painted about half a tray, so unless I step it up I will have to play with som unpainted guys. My friend I shared boxes with is a dude who paints like 1 model a month maximum so If I want painted daqans to figth then it's up to me :P.

heh i test radio software so theres no way i could do that in my spare time since its usually in 2-3 minute bursts. But thats why im on the forums so much...write to the radio and hop on the forums for a few minutes... hear a beep telling me the write is done and back to work.
I could never do a call service job. I hate dealing with customers, too many stubborn/entitled idiots... so glad i got a job where its impossible for me to deal with customers since thats all sales guys, not engineering lol
