Imperial Raider SW Battlefront 2 EA

By YariSamurai, in X-Wing

Hello fellow pilots,

I bet you have all watched this:

I wasn't really excited for this rebooted franchise but I think this game has the potential to live up to its name (which kinda overrides Pandemic game's name).

Probably someone has already pointed this out but have you noticed the Imperial Raider? What is so cool about that you ask? The raider wasn't in Star Wars-FFG created it. Now it is made canon by this trailer! I think this shows us how much impact our favourite little space combat game, which seemed so peripheral to the whole Star Wars canon, can have on it!

Tell me what you think about this "incanonisation" of the Raider, thank you,

YariSamurai

Love the idea of an imperial campaign, but I am a bit confused - are the female imperial protaganist and her mates tie fighter pilots or are they special forces? They can't be both, surely?

According to IGN they are Tie Fighter/Commando hybrids.

I saw that trailer. But all I could think of was how awesome it was to see the Raider flying around.

As someone wanting to collect a "Canon" fleet, it does now mean the Raider is an option. For Armada too.

So I for one feel very happy with the incanonisation.

The main character from this game is Iden Versio. I wonder if her rank is Lieutenant. Perhaps the lieutenant that flies the TIE aggressor coming out.

It looks like the raider is the Imperial "hero" ship.

The Raider-Class Corvette actually entered official canon last Tuesday with the release of the new Thrawn novel. It was mentioned a few times in the book.

Lucas Story Group was heavily involved in this game as they discussed during the Celebration panel. The whole game is official story line now. IIRC Iden is the commander of Inferno Squad and the single play campaign is her story arc.

Yeah, anybody can be special forces. Piloting is a job or role, a TIE Fighter is a machine. Special Forces is just guys who do special operations - Which NATO defines as "military activities conducted by specially designated, organized, trained, and equipped forces, manned with selected personnel, using unconventional tactics, techniques, and modes of employment".

Trailer looks pretty good. Didn't much care for the first game, but I might give this one a look.

I think EASWB 2 has potential to be better than EASWB, but I still can't get over the current pratice of microtransactions put inside modern videogames that are not free for download. Granted it is what everybody is doing these days, that doesn't meant I have to like it. But give credit where credit is due, EA is not putting the shadier pratices this time of unlocking the most powerful weapons behind a paywall. But I am wondering about hero abilities that are "locked".

anyone else notice at 1:25 the Raider has a hanger. Has it always had one ?

I think it's neat they canonized something FFG made.

I still think the Raider looks dumb though.

I think the X-Wings are falling past it, not out of it...

I'm not sure, but the trailer shows a few scenes inside Impy starships.

If that scene with RedRobesEv1LGuy is inside the Raider then I need to scale down the bridge. And I made the corridors in the original deck plan like this:

When they seem to be more like this:

conference-hallway.jpg

Though it could be a mixture. The CO quarters and mainways get big, glossy, Imp-style halls while the snipes and bilge rats get squeezy-sub cooridoors.
Kind of like my deckplan.
We'll see when the game comes out.

Mayhaps there'll be a Raider level like the Tantive IV level in SWBF2? =D

She is referred to as Commander, which is an Imperial Naval rank.

So, nope.

I am curious where she ends up, since her, "I've waited 30 years for this," line implies she is part of the First Order. I would imagine an important officer by then.

Edit:

At 1:15 and 1:19, you can get a good look at the uniform, which doesn't show any rank markings that match up, other than several red stripes on the shoulder pad that her squad member did not have. Marked shoulder pads on armor are in fact used by ranking troopers.

You have played Battlefront, This is the only way they make sense.

I think this is the only show that did such a thing. But you o got to admit it is rather unpractical to have your pilots serve as infantrymen as well. But since Battlefront is a Combined Arms shooter that is the only way to force it into narrative.

Ew More EA Fanboyism....grow up and go with a good game company like....ummm....like....uhhh.... well ****....all Video Game companies now a days are producing utter ****....

I've mentioned before, video games are TERRIBLE sources to base deck plans off of. The limitations of the platform require that spaces be utterly huge compared to how they should be configured. It's a big part of the reasons why I haven't tried to model a decimator with an interior, the only example of one if from a game and totally useless for a reasonable attempt. Maybe use the video game to determine the general position of major rooms, but keep the far more realistic sizes fir rooms and, especially, corridors.

If you ask me, the Interior shots look like a scaled back ISD Bridge, so there ya go for the bridge. As far as the rest, and based on what I can determine holding my Epic Scaled Raider next to the CR-90, dont give it many "quarters", give it a restroom facility, a large armory, and a huge cargo area, that CAN be used to sleep in, but mainly is used to deploy your special forces out of, maybe have at least two or three speeder bikes and a single Hover tank inside too

Space above and beyond clip

It's pretty much endemic in all science fiction. Star Trek bridge crew going on landing parties, Stargate teams piloting combat missions and going on special forces assignments. B-5 did a decent job keeping it to a minimum and providing explanations when they did, but it is pretty much an unavoidable result of dramatic story-telling.

Basically like the Rogue Squadron/Wraith Squadron post Endor.

they may be falling past it, but look between the wings of the Raider. You can see the hanger opening, very briefly. Have to pause it at just the right time to see it.
