R4 Agromech

By WhisperEcho, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Should we run the R4 Agromech like the X7 title? Since both cards origianlly said after completing a manuver or wait and see if FFG FAQs R4?

I think you've confused your droids:

R4 Agromech: When attacking, after you spend a focus token, you may acquire a target lock on the defender.

Maybe you mean K4 Security Droid? K4: After executing a green maneuver, you may acquire a target lock.

K4 really isn't broken, but it would be consistent to say "you may perform a free target lock action" if they're going to keep that model. Would need to be FAQ'd, though -- right now you get it regardless of stress, bump, or obstacle.

yes I meant the K4, thanks. But it says after executing a maneuver, this was exactly what the X7 title said to start with.

That was my point FFG changes one but not the other.

How should we rule it?

You should rule it according to its text unless and until FFG changes it.

Or use a house rule, but be clear about when you're doing so.

Nope.

Do what it says on the card, don't do what it doesn't say on the card. x7 was errated because it was wildly overpowered. K4 isn't.

Indeed, the X7 change wasn't a FAQ (Rules Clarification), it was a straight up Errata (Rules Change). As such it has no precedent over other cards that used similar wording.

You should play it that after you execute a green manoeuvre, you may acquire a target lock. There's no need for any other changes, because it's clear as it is.

If FFG felt it needed to be changed to read something else, they would have made a specific FAQ entry or errata for it. If you try and set your own precedents for some cards merely because they may be worded similarly to other cards, you're setting yourself up for major confusion and arguments.

If the X7 nerf had taken the form of a clarification that didn't change the card text but stated that the Evade was a free action, and you didn't get it if you overlapped, because reasons, then yes, after the rules forum got over its collective aneurysm, there would be a case to be made that other similarly worded cards might be meant to work the same way.

But this wasn't FFG saying "Hey, this is what that text means," it was FFG saying "Hey that text is gone now, and it should be this."

Yeah. K4 is +3 points only on s green

x7 is -2 points any 3,4 or 5 speed move

big difference.
