Projection Experts

By Leobarron2000, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Projection expert upgrade card says I can spend up to two engineering points to move that many shields from the ship to another ship. Does that mean I can move two shields to another ship or one shield because a shield costs two engineering points?

I'm reading that it's two shields and you need to use the engineer command to initiate it. (not an engineer token)

Is that right?

Not Quite:

You require an Engineering Command .

A Command can be a Dial, a Token, or a Dial+Token, basically... Those are all a Command - which is why you cannot spend a Dial, and then later spend a token in the same turn = because you can only resolve the Command Once per turn.

So yes, you can move shields with a Token, if that's all you've got.

The wording is, Spend a number of Engineering Points (up to 2), to move that many Shields......

0 Points = 0 Shields

1 Point = 1 Shield

2 Points = 2 Shields

You're moving them with projection experts - the Engineering points to raise a shield are irrelevant to the Projection Experts card.

And you can do that while still spending Engineering Points on Other things.

So, for example, you have an Interdictor with Projection Experts and it also has an Engineering Token already.

You Turn your Dial over, and you have an Engineering Dial. You state you are spending the Dial and the Token.

This gives you 8 Engineering Points... 5 for the Dial + 3 for the Token.

You spend 2 of them to send 2 Shields from your Front Zone to across to the other Ship. Leaving 6.

You then spend 3 points to remove a damage card from yourself. Leaving 3.

And then you spend 2 points to Raise a shield in the Front, leaving 1 point.

And you transfer a shield from your Rear to your Front. Resolving all of your Engineering Points.

Projection experts basically adds a line to what you can do with Engineering Points, as follows:

Spend 3 to Remove a Damage Card
Spend 2 to Raise a Shield
Spend 1 to Transfer a Shield from One Zone to another.
Spend up to 2 to Transfer that many Shields to another Ship.

There :D

Thanks again. I'm a newbie, still learning the ropes.

Got another question on engaged. Couldn't find the answer. Let's say a tie fighter wants to attack a Y Wing but an X Wing is close by with ESCORT. If the tie fighter was in a position where it was in range of the Y Wing but beyond Range 1 of the XWing, can attack the Y Wing directly since it's not ENGAGED with x wing escort?

Exactly.

Assuming there are no other special rules in play:

You are only Engaged when you are within Distance 1 of an enemy. Which, for the vast majority of Squadrons, is also the range that they can fire at - (which is why it is pertinent).

You elect which squadron you are going to shoot with.

You check to see which Squadrons are at Distance 1 (your Target choices).

You pick a target at distance 1, and shoot at it.

If one of the choices is a Squadron with Escort, you must shoot at one of those squadrons, if you are shooting at all.

Thanks again

Just adding two things here:

1. You are NOT engaged, even at distance 1, if the Line of Sight is obstructed. That can happen if a ship or an obstacle is in the way. You can still shoot at each other (with one die less for the obstruction), but things like Escort require actual Engagement to work.

2. Squadrons with Heavy do not prevent you from moving or shooting ships, so basically they impose none of the restrictions a regular squadron does. But Heavy squadrons still engage your squadrons in melee, this can be important in combination with other keywords or abilities.

Indeed. My "assuming there are no other special rules in play" were for the basics, of course :)

Yep, I just tried to provide the additional information to our new player, because I see these things played incorrectly a lot.
