How to use bombs properly?

By Thalasarian, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey guys,

I was playing a couple games of Xwing last night against my friend and we had both decided to play around with bombs for a change, so neither of us had any real experience with them and the following situation came up that we couldn't figure out how to execute:

My bomb load out-scum-Y-wing flew forward and using my action I dropped the Connor net it carried. The net token deployed overlapping one of his ships. It over lapped in a way that when he would execute a maneuver his move template was not going to touch the token. So, we scratched our heads. We both thought that the bomb would blow up automatically at the start of the turn before he would move, but, that didn't make much sense since a ship barely touching a debris field at the start of its turn doesn't gain a stress token... The a few turns later the same situation happened, only this time it was a deployed cluster mine field, and the ship on top of it when activated wouldn't have its template touch the bombs either....

So, how should this work? Does the bomb blow immediately? At the start of the activating ships turn? Not at all? Curious so that next time we play we can do it the right way.

Thanks!

Read the reference card for each one and follow the directions. (Don't forget to look at the FAQ, at least one of these reference cards has an errata.)

Connor Nets, Proximity Mines and Cluster Mines detonate the moment a ship's base or maneuver template overlap the bomb token. If you drop one of these directly onto another ship, it detonates on that ship. (Even a friendly.) If it overlaps more than one ship, the player deploying the bomb chooses the victim.

All the "before you reveal your maneuver" bomb tokens currently in the game detonate at the end of the activation phase, after every ship moves. It doesn't matter if they make physical contact with a ship.

There is also a clarification in the FAQ for what happens when a Conner Net is dropped directly on top of a ship, since it may already have a dial set for that round.

Quote

If a Conner Net is dropped overlapping a ship and immediately detonates, and that ship has not yet activated this phase, that ship executes the maneuver on its dial as normal and skips its "Perform Action" step. If a Conner Net is dropped overlapping a ship and immediately detonates, and that ship has activated this round, that ship suffers the effects of being ionized next turn and does not skip any "Perform Action" step. If a ship is ionized, executes its [1Straight.png ] maneuver, and overlaps a Conner Net, all ion tokens are discarded at the end of the maneuver (including those received from Conner Net).
