How do you paint your stands?

By Tiberius the Killer, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I have seen a lot of people paint the clear stands to a matte black. I love the look, but I want to know what exactly people use for it. Is that just a black primer? Or just some other spray paint? I assume you need primer first if that's the case?

I'd like to start doing it myself, but I want to know the right way about it before I start buying things.

Black spray paint...then use matte varnish.

Done.

You can get that from Wal-Mart mega cheap...production line it.

I use black como spray paint. one shot all done. :)

I have used citadel black primer as well as krylon black plastic primer, both have a matte finish already. the Krylon is much cheaper though and looks just as good. I don't worry with the matte varnish, but I might change my mind the more I handle them.

Yup, what Moodswing said. Whatever you get, ensure it says it will bond to plastic. Nowadays that is pretty much a given but it's good to check.

Is this the stuff of which you speak?

I just got matte black krylon from can-ti, nothing else needed.

One thing to add that I did to mine, aside from painting them matte black - use a toothbrush and fleck a tiny bit of white, yellow, and blue on them for a little star field look. Put a tiny bit of paint on the bristles, move a few inches away, and drag your thumb across the bristles to let them spatter. I really like the look better than the solid black color and it only takes a couple minutes to do a ton of bases at once.

I'd love to see pictures of this effect!
