People would rather copy Pheaver or Paratani since those are established, and getting Kylo to crit automatically seems to be too hard for people to figure out. And everyone knows that if you can use a pilots ability every FAQing round then it's no good.

Coming in hot. The answer is simple, but two-fold:
1) Despite the Upsilon's better-than-the-Lambda dial and because of its price point, it ain't viable; plus,
2) a three-point, Imperial Only crew is something you have to build a whole list around - so what's that mean? RAC. How's RAC look in the meta? Answer: Not apocalyptic.

I've always said Kylo isn't all that hot, and he'd end up being like Tractor Beams - a storm in a teacup.
I've not really changed my opinion. He's strong when he's used but he has enough weaknesses that he's not top-meta.
What I do think is that you can't build a two-ship list any more without thinking about how you combat him when he does appear. Because he REALLY messes up two-ship lists where he can easily cost you half your firepower for the entire game (thinking about him here as the third crew on RAC along with HotCop and Gunner).

Why build a whole list around one so-so card?
Basically, everyone's waiting for for one of the creative, intelligent, talented players like Paul or Para to come up with a list using Kylo. Then they can piggyback onto it.
Because everyone knows the meta chasers haven't got an original idea between them.
I think most of the complaints weren't that he was too good, but that good or not he was a bad game experience.
I think those complaints are entirely accurate.

Genuinely though, if Cad Bane is a bad card I'm gonna riot.
I don't care if he's not a top-of-the-meta tournament staple.
But he's got to be playable.

He may not be all that good, be he is definitely not fun to face unless you have specifically countered him with Determination or Chewie or similar.
I think the place for Kylo crew is on a Tie shuttle. This allows you to have more options for escorts. I have a list with Omega Leader, Vader, and a Tempest Squadron to help push the crits through. I have not run it against the top meta lists, as I need to stay with my current list for Worlds, but it seems solid. I may try to run it for the store championships coming up after Worlds.
Edited by shadowswalkerOne of the biggest reasons Kylo doesn't show up at the top tables is Biggs. His ability is useless if you can't shoot the regen ship. Pretty much any list with Biggs will eat RAC alive by the time Biggs is dead.
I agree with the assertion that, even if he's not great, he's a fairly poor play experience. But I completely understand why he was introduced. He was meant to reign in point fortress Rebel regen like 48 pt Corran Horn. Seriously though, f*** Corran Horn.

In case anyone is interested, Tomax Bren with Crack Shot, Kylo, and Merc Copilot is 30 points. The 70 that's left easily fits autocritting Vader and Backdraft. I make no promises about this squad, but it does have 3 high PS, crit-reliable ships with Kylo Ren.

It wasn't really that it was going to dominate it the meta, it was more that it was going to restrict the meta, make other currently dominant squads even more dominant by wiping out some of their counters, and in addition to that be the most negative play experience inducing mechanic possible.
What it would have done was just drive even more people to Parattanni and Palpatine Aces and Biggs, and punish a lot of things that countered those types of lists like Scum 2 ship lists.
But since Palpatine Aces and Parattanni were still better lists at the time, no one flew Kylo. That's why.
He ruined TFA...

I find it also interesting that some of the pods where like
"ugh the Quadjumper is so sh*tty NPE, I do not get around to fly my ships anymore as they are going to be tractored", and then later like:
"Kylo is so awesome" and drawing up lots of builds how to best get the crits through....
Kylo is OK
...what sucks is the Empire's multiple crew hauling ships can't turn the **** around like every other factions stupid ships.

Those threads went to the great black hole in the sky.....along with all the imperial players in competitive.
Tractor is nuts behind a really good pilot. Its the easiest way to get a thrashing. Like an utter make you look like this is your 3rd and a half game type of thrashing.
