Newbie ? on Gallant Haven and Biggs

By Leobarron2000, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Starting a 400 point game and I was wondering the following:

If I picked Biggs and several other X-Wing Pilots, including Luke Skywalker and Wedge, and then I placed the with the Gallant Haven Assault Frigate Mk II, would the following interpretation of the rules be correct?

1. Tie Fighter shoots at Biggs, who is in the center of the formation of 4 X-Wings, including one standard X-Wing to act as a sponge, and Biggs takes two hits. He spends his defense token, which halves the hit to '1'. Since he is also within 1 space of Gallant Haven, which has the ability to cancel one damage, does that still apply? (I think it does - therefore, Biggs takes no damage)

2. Biggs is attacked several more times. On the third attack, he chooses not discard his spent brace tokens. Instead, he shifts the one hit from the third Tie Fighter to the sponge X-Wing, which is also only one space away from Gallant Haven. Can the one X-Wing utilize the Gallant Haven ability to limit damage and cancel out the one hit, even though the hit came from Biggs and not a Tie Fighter? (Don't really know the answer on this)

Greetings Leo

1) I'm not sure on this one, though from the reading of Gallant Haven's card I'd say you're right.

2) Gallant Haven only cancels a damage from an attack. In this case, as you've already noted, the damage isn't actually coming from the TIE (an attack) but rather from Biggs (an ability) and as Gallant Havens ability doesn't work against abilities (only attacks) the X-Wing would have to cop the damage.

Hope that helps :)

I thought that was the case. Still, that's a deadly combo.

1) is correct. The damage is reduced to 0. Brace-capable squadrons (so aces or generics with Jan around) can be very tough to crack around Gallant Haven, which is why most experienced players won't send their squadrons into the Gallant Haven bunker if they can avoid doing so: it's a death sentence.

2) The damage dealt through Biggs' ability is not reduced, no.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the help.

And this is actually the reason why Gallant Haven worth taking. You can allow the Imps to have their alpha strike on your fighters. They bounce off your Biggsball and then you can Yavaris your fighters for the double strike :)

Another question:

Does the Gallant Haven ability work against counterattacks?

  • It seems like it would since counterattack is just an attack.

In addition, would the Biggs ability also work against counterattacks?

  • I think the answer is yes, but I want to make sure for both,

Yes, because as you stated... Counter is an Attack.

Last two questions on the topic.

1. How many times can Bigg use this ability to shift hits?

2. Let's say aTie Fighter attacks Luke Skywalker. Hits twice. Luke braces, and reduces it to one. Since Biggs is within one space of Luke and another X Wing, can Biggs shift the braced hit to the other X Wing after Luke reduces the effect?

Thanks again and I apologize for all the questions.

1) Until Biggs is dead, or there are no targets to shift to. Because Biggs is a Target himself.

2) Yes. Because the Brace takes effect to reduce the damage, before the damage is suffered... Biggs then shifts the damage as the damage is about to be suffered.

You can have a situation where someone will shoot at Luke, and, say, do 4 damage... Luke Braces it to 2. Gallant Haven prevents 1 of that Damage on Luke, and then Biggs takes the last 1 damage and dumps it on a Generic X-Wing Nearby.

No need to apologise. My old physics teacher used to say that the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask :)

Besides, answering these sort of questions is the reason this sub forum exists. We're here answering because we actually enjoy answering these sort of questions. Particularly to someone like yourself, who is quick to grasp the explanation rather than here for an argument.
