Slurms Mckenzie Rides Again (Aka the Battle report)

By jek, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hello! I have returned with The Runecast Episode 1 The first 200 pt battle report! The lets play we put up last week was our episode 0! Here it is full of random stupidity and and sarcasm. Please enjoy and if you enjoy you should subscribe to the channel for more biweekly battle reporting goodness!

At about 39 minutes, you say that the Oathsworn Cavalry shouldn't have been able to remove the Reanimate tray in the back because the cavalry were flanking, and therefore the back was different.

1) Figures are always removed from the back of the unit and that back is determined by the unit, not by where it is engaged (RR-66.1 explains that a unit's back row is its back rank. The unit card shows a line indicating where the front is and the front of a unit does not change. So even if flanked, you lose figures from the back of the unit based on the unit's facing, not based on where the attack is coming from.)

2) Kari was the one who took out that tray, not the Oathsworn Cavalry.

On another note, the Carrion Lancer's skill that causes blight requires line of sight. I think you overlooked that in your game.

But thanks for the video! It'll be a few months before I get my army, so I love watching as much of this game as I can!

EDIT: And I did learn a new rule watching your video. I didn't realize that the bonus die from flanking could be a die that wasn't on that unit's card.

Great video guys, keep up the good work!

Nice work!

Looking forward to getting a chance to play with you in May!

Liked the video. Minor suggestion of editing out the dial phases?

I was thinking about. I agree that in the future that may be nice, but for these first few games, I've enjoyed seeing how long the actual game time is because they left the dial planning in the video.

About 23:00, your reanimates failed the charge, gained the panic token, got charged by the cavalry, lost two trays, but no morale was performed.

Im through the first two rounds, you guys are doing great. I'll also suggest editing the dial decisions.

You're not required to resolve a panic test with panic tokens, but can save them up for a more severe test.

Thanks for the comments and rule corrections! I had talked about editing out the command phase with my friend who compiles the video and we will definitely be cutting it out in the future. It's just to much time with no ability for banter usually because of planning and such. Should also being run time down by 15 tho 20 minutes.

Hey all this is Brad from the Runecast video. I agree we should edit out the planning phase and I am a big fan of having more banter throughout the game. I really appreciate the feedback and the rules clarifications so keep it up.

Thanks, I forgot about that.

As mentioned above, edit out the setting dials Phase.

And walk us thru the upgrades, and why you chose them.

Will do. This video is only the first editing evolution and was done pretty late at night(our camera person actually just was like i'm leaving cuz sleep) half way through. In future reports there will be a bit more intro explaining the army as well as some focus on them. Thanks for the comments everyone though they are really helping us develop this into something the community wants!

I typically watch all videos at 1.5-2.0 speed (thanks medical school studying!) so the length wasn't as terrible, but I still found myself skipping the phase as best I could. Did you use 3 CORE sets for your undead army?

yeah it was 3 cores of waiqar. The command phase takes between 15-20 minutes of the video I believe and most of the time is just dead air and hands fidgeting on dials so it is definitely going away...

Cool video! Please keep them coming. FFG have a real gem of a game with RMG, as much grass roots support we can give it the better

At the end when you are chatting and moving things around the table, we could not see the table.

I would like to see a "Table Talk" type of deal where you guys go over some thoughts, tips, and tricks.

That is the plan, this video was not filmed under an ideal timeline, so future video we will cut away from the table to a straight on discussion of the game.

@Muz333 your lack of comment makes me think you didn't watch this since I made reference to a certain Scotsman in this video...

I was out of town and have too many posts to catch up on! I'll make sure to watch it today. ?

Fun to watch and gave a great sense of a larger game!

I'd also offer some constructive advice: Since we can't see your dice, dials, or runes, it would help a lot if you consistently called them out as in, "I rolled two hits, a surge, and a morale," or, "I dialed a 3 march with a charge modifier," or "we have two blue, two red and a green rune".

You guys did do this sometimes, and when you did it was super helpful in making it easier to follow.

Also, if you have the power to edit, it would have been super awesome to overlay a narrative track. What were you thinking during certain moves? what were you trying to do? This would be super amazing during deployment too. I know this is a ton of work though and wouldn't wish it on you unless you were really into v-casting as much as you are playing :-)

Thanks again for the great vid! Looking forward to more!

I've been talking to a few people and with how this game's initiative is set up I don't think there would be any problem explaining why I'm making specific movements as the dial is revealed. I'm not sure if a narration would be doable with our current setup or if it is our editor might just end up murdering me if I ask him to...not sure. But we will be putting a bit more explanation in the game, and we are going to be trying a multiple camera setup with someone recording as the game goes so we should be able to have atleast dice rune cam in some form in the future. Once again this is all based on our limitations of equipment but I will definitely work to state what actually is going on as far as dials, rolls, and runes!

Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching!.

Uh, what playing board/surfaces are those? I want some...
