Prequel ships more likely?
Now that's what I like to hear!
Let's hope so. I could use a wave without TIE X and obscure Rebel ship.
Edited by weisguy119Well, we've already got the ARC-170 and Z-95, which were both only ever Clone Wars-era ships. And, of course, the Y-Wing (started there, but most folks could be forgiven for associating it only with the OT movies it featured heavily in).
(Not to mention the only on-screen version of the YV-666 being from the Clone Wars period)
So I'd say FFG's position on this has been softening for a while. And given the continued growth of the game...I mean, they were basically running out of places to go, if they have it in their minds (and no reason not to) that it won't still be their banner title years from now...
Honestly, I'm good with it. They overlap a bit in function with some of the ships in the existing factions but still could be some fun to be had there.
Would they put them in new factions? I don't see how they fit in with existing ones unless they do something similar to the arc.
Edited by AlexWI would hope they'd add 2 factions - Republic and Separatists.
Edited by weisguy119We've already got Ventress and she dies before Clone wars ends
Edited by ToqtamishIf they added new factions, they'd launch as either a third variation on the core set or two simultaneous "aces or most wanted" style 2-3 ship packs.

I'm completely ok with either.
*applause*?! B-but how is it possible? Everybody hates the prequels! Especially true patrician taste FFG fans!
Edited by eMeMIf new factions are created they will rule the game.
When has this happened before?
(Scum and Villainy)
I'm good with the idea. As for how to do it? Very carefully.
I doubt they would add new factions or subfactions because you then get issues of does the Galactic Republic go under Rebels because they were the 'good guys' of the prequel era, or do they go under the Empire because they eventually evolved into the Empire. Same with the separatists. Plus the standard has been set by the ARC-170 really. There's nothing stopping them introducing random ships from the prequels as ships in the current factions and mixing pilots from different eras. As someone pointed out Ventress is dead by the time of the OT and she appears in the game. Furthermore timeline means nothing when you can have Biggs fight alongside Poe Dameron while Jan Ors escorts them with Jyn Erso on board and Corran is there for back-up. We've already mixed timelines and canons.
N-1 was used by the Rebels and even flown by Leia, so I can see that as a very viable and likely option. Plus we can have Rhys Dallows from the Starfighter video game. We're already getting Nym, so why not?
The V-Wing would make a great hybrid Scum and Empire ship in my opinion. The only issue I forsee is that I don't think they'll go cheaper than 12 points for a ship...so they'd have to find a way to make the V-Wing different enough from the TIE Fighter, and conversely the M-3A and Z-95.
We also never found out what type of ship it was, but I always like Vana Sage's Guardian Mantis from the Star Wars Starfighter game. It was a very unusual design and its one I'd love to see added in as a Scum/Rebel ship.
That's about all the prequel ships I'd like to see.
Oh jesus christ for the love of god please no.
I WANT A SITH INFILTRATOR!!!!! With a little spy droid that you can deploy to debuff and/or buff ships.

What a well thought out and rational argument.

I don't exactly considered clone wars as hard cannon. So the Z-95 was in Legend also (it should have been in episode 3 but G. Lucas wanted to lock S-foils). You could argue that the Firespray was a prequel ship but then again we also got two millennium falcons. Well we do also have 2 Firesprays if you count scum but it didn't come with a square engine.
But as it has been stated we already got prequel ships in X-wing. The ARC-170, so I think that means we will be seeing more prequel ships as well. Now as for separate factions or subfactions the answer is a simple not likely. The prequel ships are going to be merged in with the OT factions just like the ARC-170, that is a certainty. Now who gets what? That is the greatest unknown when it comes to prequel ship discussion.

Rebels: republic stuff, but hand me downs, rugged paint scheme
Empire: Republic stuff, but from the early days (of the empire) when it was shiny and new, stuff like V-wing, Eta-2, arc-170 eventually (no astros because Gameplay> fluff)
Scum: droids (Kalini running around not affliated to any major faction counts as scum right?)

You can have Imperial Astros, you will just have to design a new icon for the Imperial Astromech slot that separates loyal ones from the stolen reprogrammed ones, much like how Syndicate Thugs have Salvaged Astromechs instead of the standard Astromechs of the Gold Squadron pilots.
Given the runaway success of the game, I doubt FFG would try to shoehorn in the Republic/Separatist stuff into the existing factions.
Why would they? Especially given the Separatist focus on droid-control ships (and, well, the Republic widely using Jedi pilots...I mean, for real, THINK OF ALL THE NAMED PILOTS POSSIBLE ) - there is so much potential for new game mechanics , not to mention all the new models.
I'd be shocked speechless if they didn't take the opportunity to spin up two new factions. (And, yeah, it's be a bold effort - they'd almost certainly have to do it as a core set, and one that includes not just the usual-three-fighters, but 'conversion tiles' and pilots for the Firesprays, Y-Wings, ARC-170s, and Z-95s we already have)
But it's such a no-brainer for kicking open the doors to a massive new source of content...it's really hard to imagine them passing up on that.
Why not simply create a "new" xwing game for the prequel ships ?
Would be better and avoid more complication about multi-faction ships ?
And of course with the seperation between the two era, we avoid "anachronism" (anakin/vader for example)
Prequel era have enough ship for many waves ! And we finally get obiwan, yoda and more

I have no problem with more ships from prequels, sequels or originals. I would have a problem with more factions. Prequel ships should be dual Rebel/Imperial releases. A bit like the Scrugg H-6 Bomber has a Rebel pilot and dial.
My only concern is that we may end up with another 2016 style release schedule; a flood of new ships every 3 months with no stabilisation in the meta, and people getting disenfranchised with the assault on their wallet to keep up.
Last year was ridiculous, and I was hoping it'd be a one off schedule, but an entire trilogy of new ships on top of whatever comes from each movie for the next few years, not to mention tv shows, points toward it being a new standard. I don't at all mind prequel ships in the game, but I don't want five-ship waves every 4 months either.
I think adding new factions is going to be too hard for FFG, I think that it will be up to event organisers to decide if they wish to run a themed event. I think it could be a bit of fun, and maybe limit certain synergies, but it would be a lot of initial work for the TO's to organise what ships are allowed. Pretty what what we have now is the Dark side, Light side and everyone else.

With all respect, that ship sailed looooong ago when you could have Biggs (who died in episode IV) fly alongside Poe Dameron (from episode VII) alongside Corran Horn (who technically doesn't exist now because he was in Legends material). I do think they need to pick and choose ships and put ships in ones that make sense, so any ships the Rebels could use into Rebel, and any late republic stuff like the V-Wing into Imperial.
