First attempt at painting Runewars models

What range of purple are you using that coverage is low? I've never had an issue with purples and use mostly Vallejo.

Looks good, although I'm not a fan of the default scheme (or full colour armour).

For the purples I started by undercoating in citadels abaddon black, then 2 layers of naggaroth night (citadel). I then washed in druchi violet and when dry another layer of naggroth to bring the colour back. then a layer of xereus purple.

It was still too dull and dark so I went over it twice with liquitex prism violet which had a nice vibrant purple, hoping to really make the colour glow. Unfortunately it was still too dark and dull. I could see too many layers were now spoiling the models detail and I didn't want to use anything lighter at the risk of ending up with a pink model so I gave up.

in hindsight my mistake may have been the black undercoat. Still I've gone with the blue now anyway but may try the purple again sometime

Any colour you base out in black is going to take much longer to get any coverage. try painting the areas you want to paint purple a midling grey, or better white, not black. then apply the colours. If you want dull muted colours, then yes, black is a great way to do that, but if you want vibrance, as bright as possible underneath, else it will be an even slower process to get them.

This is a very important question:

What bottle is that in your first picture? I desperately need to know.

Haha, just noted your name. It was orange lucozade. Used to love the stuff but doesn't taste the same since they halved the amount of sugar. Dam sugar tax.

Have to say, I don't know what it is about these Runewars models but I've not had this much fun painting in years. So much so I went out and bought another core set....doh

Completed a test model for the oathsworn Calvary and really pleased with the way it came out, now to batch paint the other 11.

Majestic black horse is majestic

They are very pleasing figures. Expertly done!

The highlighting on the blue is very neat. Well done.

Thank so for the kind comments gents :)

Golem done, went for an earthy look for this one. Tried dry brushing various browns but soon realised it needed more of a clean hand painted highlight so out came the tiny brush. Photos aren't great but they give the impression.

next golem will be grey stone I think following the same technique

Will be joining a 100 point game later in the week so thought I would paint up Kari as she is so effective. Must say the model is very detailed and a pain in the **** to detail but pleased with the result. Added red to mix in with the army theme.

Thanks for the comment :) glad you like them.

i can't wait to paint the hawthorn and ankaur maro as they have some lovely detail

Maro's "mount" gives me nightmares thinking of how to paint it in my scheme....

Ah the Joys of the new photobucket terms and conditions. Looks like I'm closing that account then.

The second bodyguard for Kari is now complete. Edge highlighting was driving me nuts so I think I'll take a break from Golems (until the next release :) )

Time to move back to getting my Waiqar complete. Just undercoated 4 trays of reanimates, 4 trays archers and one lancer. Should be a busy weekend

That's super frustrating. I've got so many images across so many forums. And did you see their rate? They say $400/year is a competitive price. Bah!

a competitive price for a photo sharing site is literally 0....
There are several that dont charge a dime for basic photo upload/forum linking.

400$/ yr, isn't Photoshop less than that a year for license? Crazy stuff. (Lightroom is significantly cheaper, I know that much, although I still use 5)

As everyone shifts from photobucket to other alternatives I can see them going the same way
