Given the general troubles Star Wars films have had with on-screen ship scale, those could all be SSD sized.
Trailer up
Guys,
It's gotta be. It has the same vertical spire but eliminates the spine-snap weakness of the Nebulon-B. The profiles are so similar it has to be a callback refit, to make the most out of what was probably a Typo.
I'm thrilled because it means there's something to field against the Resurgent, a ship which I've wanted for over a year because Empire needs bigger guns!
I'm just hoping the battle scenes we're seeing are not a repeat of the Battle of Hoth with a space element. Force Awakens already draws flack for being too similar to ANH.

But it's nice, in that it makes it pretty obvious they can make it into both X-Wing *and* Armada.
I really hope they're at least big enough to be made into flotillas
but
the more I look at the freeze framed video the more I think they're going to be much smaller. One of the ones near the front has some sort of checker board markings and there looks to be a triangular 'warning sign' that you find on smaller fighters on the front, below what could be the cockpits. The engines look like they could be similar to the GR-75 engines but when you look at the size of the T-70's and TIE-FO's and where they're positioned in amongst the ships they just look too small to be capital ships. Also the one nearest the screen appears to take a stray laser blast from an TIE-FO and the explosion looks a little large for a single laser blast...
Really
hope I'm wrong but I don't think these are the capital ships we're looking for

I really hope you're right Norsehound... But I can't see those being able to carry a whole flight of TIE Fighters

Holdup. Dead center in the frame, obscured because it's blurry. An A-Wing! A new A-Wing?

Yeah, discussing over in the X-Wing thread is really scaling these down.
Specifically, that ball turret...
...compare that turret to the ~17m LAAT/i...
...it's pretty clear that the bottom of that axe cannot be any longer than the length of the LAAT/i, which means the whole ship is in the 40-50m range.

We only have that side shot. If I were to make a wild guess, I'd say the rear spine portion is the hangar rack for starfighters. *shrug*
The article says they're used by the First Order, so maybe not. And we've been thrown on wild tracks before with new canon I think. It's just that the profile resembles the Nebulon so much that I think it's a good guess. The horizontal transport in Ep7 looks like a landed B-Wing profile ans sure enough, the cockpit is said to come from a B-Wing MK-II. So in a way, theres' precedent.
I'm just happy the Resistance has capital ships of their own now. I really want to field a Resurgent, but I feel that can't happen without a Resistance opponent of some kind.
Question: We see Leia in front of a command console, and Poe's X-Wing is blown up in what looks like a hangar with a beveled hangar entry. Are we seeing Home One , you think?

Just going to leave this here (It doesn't confirm my theory but Chuck Wendig says this is exactly how he imagined the Starhawk)

Sure, except these are 40m-long ships, and the Starhawks carry entire squadrons of fighters internally. So... not Starhawks .
Heck, if you do a frame-by-frame of that scene, there is actually a blur of a TIE Fighter seen passing BEHIND one of the ships - and the upper cylinder portion is no taller than the TIE Fighter's panels.
These are tiny (for a 'proper starship')

Nose, it's barely bigger than the Falcon. Maybe as big as a CR90 tops. Look at the scale when the X-Wing flies right on front of it.
Maybe it's just me, but that trailer sure doesn't get me all hot and bothered to watch this next one.
I'm a junkie however. So I'll be seeing it, opening night I'm sure.

I can't remember a time when you weren't dour and uncritical.
It's just your mode.

And the whole Jedi thing...they always went on about balance, and yet they tried to wipe out all traces of the darkside, without the darkside there is no balance, and before Palpatine started up there was no balance.
So luke is quite right to say for there to be balance, you must have both, and both must be in harmony.
From a Jedi perspective, the idea that the dark side is necessary for balance is like saying heroine and trans fats are necessary for a balanced lifestyle to balance out all that healthy food and exercise. The dark side disrupts the natural balance by encouraging its practitioners to consume and exploit without being concerned with the long term consequences of their actions on themselves and their surroundings.
That's just one point of view, but it's worth pointing out that there wasn't any internal cognitive dissonance within the Jedi philosophy of pursuing balance and strictly adhering to the light side.
Hey guys, the trailer and the new ships are super cool and all, but are we going to ignore the fact @GiledPallaeon and @Darth Sanguis just had a completely rational, yet oppositional discussion that touched very closely on RL topics of interventionism and imperialism without it devolving into a flame war or troll posts?
Round of applause all around, gentlemen. I salute you. Let's all try and emulate your example and keep the community awesome.
Edited by FatherTurinWell, we get a new capital ship so far in the new movie, but I'm still waiting on TFA stuff. I guess FFG really needed something for the Rebels?
Can someone screenshot the hangar scene. Does it seem to be ground based, Mon Cal in design, or might the hangar be from a new ship?

That looks like a head in the window of the closet ship there. If it is, that would give us a pretty good indication of the size.
Yeah, those have got to be between Ghost and Gozanti-sized, no larger.
Those look like somwthig from battle beyond the stars
In all seriousness, though.....after the first being a clone of A New Hope, they are actually having the second movie have a battle of not-snowspeeders against not-AT-ATs?

Here you go, along with a pic of the new ship's engines.

Yeah, that's the shot I was talking about with the other A-Wings. Can pretty clearly see the back of one in the left of the frame, and the front of another on the right of the frame.
