Hey guys, the trailer and the new ships are super cool and all, but are we going to ignore the fact @GiledPallaeon and @Darth Sanguis just had a completely rational, yet oppositional discussion that touched very closely on RL topics of interventionism and imperialism without it devolving into a flame war or troll posts?

Round of applause all around, gentlemen. I salute you. Let's all try and emulate your example and keep the community awesome.

Credit to @Darth Sanguis for not trolling me like I was braced for. I also got the distinct impression it was a discussion we've both had before, and reached the same logical conclusions then as well. Not resorting to name calling also probably helped. I treated him like an adult and he returned the favor. We were serious, but remembered we're discussing a universe of magic space wizards. Rational discussion; it can happen, kids.

Here you go, along with a pic of the new ship's engines.

Yeah, that's the shot I was talking about with the other A-Wings. Can pretty clearly see the back of one in the left of the frame, and the front of another on the right of the frame.

from the ceiling and other style elements, it looks like the interior of a Mon Cal ship's hanger.

God I hope those aren't pod racers.

And I REALLY hope they aren't pod racers on tatooine. again.

Just going to leave this here (It doesn't confirm my theory but Chuck Wendig says this is exactly how he imagined the Starhawk)

I swear to yoda if these scrawny ships took down an SSD i'll be beyond done with these rebellion shenanigans.

Apparently they are speeders, on a 'mineral world' called 'Crait'

And that the red dust is part of a strategy to help defeat the walkers.

Glad to see they've learned beyond flying straight ahead at their only guns in a tightly packed formation.... oh wait.

Those new Resistance vessels don't really qualify as capital ships. They're flotillas at most. And you know what? That's awesome because they're flying in a flotilla formation in the trailer. These would look awesome grouped together on a small base.

Controversial statement - maybe these are new B-wings! They're more gunship than fighter sized, but SW dogfights are inspired by WW2. These could be B-17s! Those were a lot bigger than their escorts. They even have ball turret defenses.

My heart yearns for a proper capital ship scrap, but we might need to wait for the 3rd in the trilogy again. This looks cool too.

So do we get to play the game "Guess how much of the trailer will actually end up in the movie" now?

Then our only hope is that "Starhawk" is now a generic term for a series of vessels, like Star Destroyer is, and we are seeing the smallest version of that marque of ship.

Or it could be like the early posts here... Confused assumptions by a fan.

I don't see anything about Starhawks in the nerdist article. My bet is these are Nebulon-Ks. They'd be about the right side for that.

Truthiness. Look at the trailer again, SLOW down the scene. You will see a First Order TIE Fighter pass beside one of the new ships' cockpit. You will get a good sense of the size by comparing the Solar Wing to the ship cockpit.

Mine was probably most affected by the 501st novels, and the NJO. Also original Thrawn trilogy and the Black Fleet Crisis, and the Clone Wars a whole and KotOR, ANYWAY...

I still think those are big enough they'll be individual ships (Hammerhead/Raider/CR90), not flotillas, but these aren't great shots to tell on.

Have you read the Republic Commando series? You really start hating the Jedi in that one. . .

That is actually what I meant by 501st... I'm an idiot.

I am. I'm also looking at the Battle of Endor scene where the Interceptors are alongside the Neb-B. The size comparison looks fairly similar. The horizontal spine isn't as long as a Neb-B, but the front vertical portion is nearly identical length.

See the Ball like things at the bottom of chin's rear and at the rear structure? Those are very comparable in size to the LAAT's ball gun. Now, looke at the zoom out of the company on the medical frigate in the empire strike back. That should give you a better idea of how big the new ship is. Corvette, smaller than the blockade runner which is MUCH smaller than the Nebulon-B.

No salute necessary, honestly, discussions about star wars lore are fun.

Yes, as the founder of https://www.facebook.com/sithdoctrine/

I have had many discussions about the Jedi and Sith and application of their philosophies. I'm not well known for sudden unwarranted acts of aggression, despite having Darth in my name. lol

To all of those saying that it can't be the Starhawk because they have a Hangar bay and these are to small to have a hangar you are ignoring past discrepancies in ship sizes.

Light spoiler for the the new canon Thrawn Novel: An Arquintes class cruiser in this novel has an "aft hangar bay" and can carry at least two Lambda class shuttles and three TIE fighters. The fact that it has an aft hangar bay would indicate it has a forward hangar bay.

In several legends sources Nebulon Bs are described as having a Hangar bay and looking at the outside of the ship that is impossible.

Star Wars has a long history of ignoring internal dimensions for the purpose of storytelling.

Technically it can dock one with enough space to carry an additional lambda in the front. If it can carry three interceptors in that fork prow it can hold two lambdas.

I agree but it was specifically mentioned it had an aft hangar bay. We know it can dock at least 1 Lamda or at least two TIE fighters as each configuration were shown in Rebels and I would say you could probably stretch it to hold 2 Lamdas OR three TIEs but there is no way it can hold two Lamdas AND three TIE fighters.
And there is no way there is room for a Hangar anywhere in there.

Oh for sure. Just so you know what follows isnt in argument with you, i'm just trying to figure out how this is going to work.

So I just got to the part of Thrawn where the aft hanger is first mentioned. I can't recall if they specifically mentioned the aft hanger had Lambadas or not so i'm going to go ahead and think of them as tie shuttles until the book proves me otherwise. As far as I know right now they've only referred to the ships as shuttles.

We know the 325 meter long Arquitens can carry three tie interceptors in the front fork, each interceptor is 9.6 meters long, with a little space left. We also know it can carry one 20 meter long lambda in the front fork.

In my head hanger is vague enough it could mean less a proper hanger and more a tight compartment along the lines of what the Ghost has only a bit larger. The Ghost is 43 meters long and can almost practically carry a Y-Wing in its storage bay. At 325 meters long I bet theres enough space where the Arquitens can maybe squeeze in two lambdas hanging on racks in an aft compartment. To me that's really not unfeasible especially when you consider the 280 meter long Pelta can carry a full squadron of A-Wings. Its definitely far more believable when you switch lambdas for the much smaller tie shuttles.

What i'm thinking is the aft hanger is located somewhere along the belly of the ship towards the aft section but before the engines. Basically the lambdas and Tie's are on racks and when the hanger doors open the shuttles and TIEs just drop detach much like a Gozanti releases its squadron. I actually think something along those lines is very feasible.

Erm... Nebulon B's are medical frigates so have always had hanger bays, how would they otherwise get the patients on board?

Umbilical docking ports. Also looking at the canon entry, I am a bit sad now that it's no longer canon that Nebulon-Bs were originally Imperial designs to protect convoys against rebel raids, but many defected or were captured by rebels. Now they're rebel designs and often used to protect their OWN convoys against Imperial raids.....
