Trailer up!

By Toqtamish, in X-Wing

HOLY CRAP I WAS RIGHT.

I WAS RIGHT ABOUT LUKE THIS WHOLE TIME.

OH MY GOD THAT VINDICATION FEELS GOOD.

I was fine with the X-wings and Tie Fighters in Ep VII but I think I have reached my limit here. New A-wing. New Nebulon. New AT-AT. Seriously?

Well, the new A-wing will have to be 2 points overcosted and be balanced for 2 EPT's...

I am still betting that she is Han and Leia's kid. They hid her from her brother, much the same way they hid Luke from Vader.

Timeline in Bloodline novel makes this impossible.

I haven't read the novels, what's the timeline?

6 years before TFA. Leia is POV, no daughter. Ben isn't bad yet as far as she knows, so no reason to hide her.

Unless... JEDI MINDWIPE??

Actually that can't be right.

The t70 in the foreground is slightly closer than the cockpit area of the nearest ship. It is about the same length as the conical part of the prow.

The ship is at least 10 cone lengths long. A t70 is 12.5 meters long by canon.

Which means these ships are at least 100-120 meters long, and similar height.

I did try to take perspective into consideration. In the screen grab the X-Wing is about twice as long as the A-Wing but based on their known lengths it should only be about 1.3 times as long. Even if I'm off by a factor of two which is greater than the perspective stretch caused by the distance between the X-Wing and A-Wing, the unidentified ship shouldn't be any greater than 50m. But I freely admit i could be way off. I'm just joining in on the fun.

?????????????????????????

wow oh oh wow oh wow!!!

I'm going to guess this ship will have a 360 degree firing arc. This ball turret sure looks to be aimed forward.

Based on the size of that turret, I am definitely off on the size of this thing. It is probably closer to 60-70M if that turret is relatively the same size as the LA-AT's.

Started playing around with this image in Photoshop...that ball turret is really a key element. Like, it looks so much like the turret in the LAAT/i...

bog31s391.jpg

...if you start scaling these things next to each other, this new ship really does begin to lean very heavily on the 'smaller than expected' scale. Like, 40m-50m long, tops . (For reference, the LAAT/i is 17m long)

@mithril2098: "The t70 in the foreground is slightly closer than the cockpit area of the nearest ship. It is about the same length as the conical part of the prow."

Oh, wait. I see a significant difference in our assumptions. To me it looks like the X-Wing is between the first and second new ship and the A-Wing is closest to the first red one. If the X-Wing really is closer than that first ship then you would be right and the new ship would be much larger than my estimates.

While you are correct that "Bloodline" is told via the point of view of Leia; Lucasfilm has already said that nothing signifigant would be revealed canonially unless it was on screen (per Pablo Hidalgo) so while you are correct that it takes place 6 years before TFA and their is no mention of another child; it doesn't make it FACT as you are proclaiming.

Good point. I thought those things were closer to 20m. I am down with 50ish

So she is Ben's daughter and Leia's grand daughter? How old are Ben and Rey?

It is fairly close to the ship either position. So we're probably still looking at 60+ meters.

I'll rewatch the trailer when I get home, when I can pause and examine easier.

Either way, between the long length and the height, we're looking at an Epic ship, way bigger than the VCX.

What ?!?! where did I say that Ben Solo is 29, Rey is 19 (also mentioned in the visal dictionary which was written by Pablo Hidalgo )

Actually the timing might be right to be Obiwans grand daughter.

If you subscribe to the fan theory that obiwan and Satine kryze got intimate back on that mission before tPM, with her 'nephew' Korkie actually being her and obiwans son.

Rey would actually be about right to be Korkie's kid. Would make her both a Kenobi, and a Mandalorian. :)

You didn't say it. It was just the only other way I could think of that she would be related to Luke.

Then she wouldn't be related to Luke though.

She doesn't have to be though. We have Ben 'Darth Emo' Organa-Solo to give us the Skywalker family drama story thread.

Yeah, I get that. I just, that stupid line in the trailer... it just didn't feel like it was aimed at Ben.

When two things don't exist they are completely in balance. Last line checks out.

Finally balance won't be about the light extinguishing the dark. For me balance was never achieved when Vader and Palp died. It was when the hundreds of Jedi were reduced to only a few...

But Luke as quite a dark tone here. He sounds a bit like Kreia from KOTOR 2. I hope he wont turn out like her. I believe that would be a bad move. My guess is that he lost something/someone really important to him and it affected his relation with and/or view of the Force. Rey would be the one to bring him back to his old self. No matter what, i really hope they dont turn him evil or even worst kill him. There needs to be some kind of link remaining between the old and the new. Even if it's just some small appearances once in a while. A bit like good old Yoda :)

Trailer was great eye candy. Excited for the new model A-wings and what looks like a new Epic ship for the Rebels. I'm sure we'll see something for the FO eventually, as well.

I like trailers that don't give away too much of the story, so they did a good job on that.

I really think the line at the end is not the whole story...either it's not the entire line, or it's taken out of context (true...from a certain point of view). I really hope it's not going down the Grey Jedi route. I always hated that crappy "code" that people bandy about like it's something deep and meaningful. I'm not adverse to a New Jedi Order, that eschews the monastic parts of the Jedi Order for something fuller.

They hadn't seen her in over a decade, and who knows if that was even the name they gave her. Also, she is the only person who doesn't have a last name (other than a storm trooper that made up his own name). That is foreshadowing for a big reveal. Not to mention that in the FA trailer Luke said that someone from the family has it, and he wasn't talking about Kylo.

So, while I have several reasons why I don't think that reasoning fits well, I'll focus on the timeline. According to Wookieepedia, Kylo Ren destroyed Luke's Jedi sometime after 28 ABY, which TFA happening about 34 ABY. That means it has been only 5 or 6 years since Kylo went full dark side. Rey is suppose to be about 18-19 years old. If she was to be hidden away by Han and Leia because Kylo went dark, that means she went into hiding when she was about 12. The vision of her as a child is not a 12 year old. That means she had to be there longer, most likely at least double the time it's been since Kylo betrayed Luke.

Now, they can add in plot points and information that might be able to even out the timeline, and possibly even address other problems I have with Rey being a Solo. But right now, all evidence makes it highly unlikely that Rey is a Solo. I do agree her parentage is being built up for a reason, but I don't think Han and Leia are it.
