Upgrades going beyond the call of duty.

By Necronsis, in X-Wing

Have you ever had an upgrade that did far more than you expected it do, like affecting the game rules in a way you did not think were possible?

For me, in one game I played, my Tie/SF took a weapon failure critical. My Tie/SF had one target in the front at range 2 and another target behind it at range 2 as well. I decided to split fire, rolling one dice on the target in front and then canceling that dice using accuracy correct and getting two hits. I then did that to the target behind the Tie/SF. My opponent was a bit surprised by how I used my Accuracy Corrector in such a fashion to negate the crit.

Anyways, does anyone else have a story where they used an upgrade in such a fashion to make it go beyond what it normal is supposed to do?

It's the same when i choose NOT to use Alliance Overhaul title on Braylen, to get Gunner activate and deliver 2 stresses via R3A2.

Or when i spend my TL to reroll hits or crits for the same reason, too

Anytime "Kylo ren's shuttle" title goes against a Mindlink list.

I snuck a TIEshuttle + Vader crew into my howl TIE crack swarm as an anti-aces tech. After a few games, I realized that vader helped save a lot of crack shots, which directly translated into my TIE swarm having a lot more firepower. Allow me to explain.

I am firing at a tricky dodgy target that has 1 hp left. Previously, the moment I could use crack shot to kill it, I must spend it. Even if I have 2-3 other TIEs left, I'd need to spend the crack shot to guarantee the kill. That's because if I do not, the last TIE firing may blank out its dice, or my opponent may somehow decide to roll 4 evades which I cant even crack through for the kill, or a combination of both.

With Vader, I simply have Vader go last, whilst I attack with all the other TIEs and try to take out the target via regular 2 dice atk. If they fail, vader helps clean it up. If they succeed, you save both crackshots & vader hugs, which you can then use to warmly welcome the next target.

Alternatively, when attacking a large ship, I have vader go immediately once the shields are down. A very lucky Structural Damage to -1 Agi often means that target is shredded in the same turn.

After putting vader crew into my TIE swarm, I must say it is fixed as an irremovable staple.

Every time I put M9-G8 in a list I'm amazed at how good that Astromech is.

... Vader on a 6 hull thing huh? It probably gets two shots, but dies in the process.

Baffle on Major Stridan. SO GOOD.

But on a ship with 5 hull and 5 shields he's so good it gets its own nickname? TIE Shuttle is cheaper and far more maneuverable than the Lambda with a higher agility besides. You should get your three uses of Vader but if worried a Hull Upgrade could give it a shot at 4 uses.

I think I need to see the list and your flight formation to get some context.

Vader shuttle is quite good. Not OP, but its quite good. You need the hull for multiple Vaderings.

Not sure of the lists but the comparisons aren't hard to make although the Doom Shuttle had fallen off by the time the TIE Shuttle came along and also had to deal with the rise of the Palpmobile.

Doom TIE: Scimitar + Shuttle + Vader (19 points) w/ Hull Upgrade optional (22 points total): 2/3/6(7)/0

Doom Shuttle: Omicron + Vader (24 points): 3/1/5/5

The Lambda's attacks are higher and it certainly could use Vader more but it's also a much bigger, easier, and in many ways more predictable target. The TIE Shuttle may not have the Stop but it has the 3 turns, fewer reds, the 4 straight, 5K and barrel roll to use. If you're trying to fly it with a TIE Swarm the Bomber should have a much easier time of it.

What's the list you use it in is what I'm asking. Crackswarm with Howl?

I would guess doom bomber, howl with CS, black CS x 4, 2 points to flavor

Well he's not fitting hull upgrade with that. LWFrame though...

Would you believe me if I told you Marksmanship on Bossk. Add your crew and whatever secondary weapon you like and deliver a punch they'll never forget.

My last regionals I made it to the semifinals but never lost a ship. I was flying C-3PO Miranda and Rey, R2-D2 Kanan.

Let me me tell you that R2-D2 was the MVP of that whole tourney. My opponent would end up trying to take the easy kill on Kannan, but it had gotten to the point where I would evade, Rey a focus to drop the opponents attack dice with Kanans ability, and then regen one damage. So basically you needed to do greater than three damage to my 0 agility ship in order to make headway.

Like I said, I never lost a ship the whole tournement. Lost my last match to time against triple defenders because he had half on Kannan and I was one TLT away from killing his Ryan. Oh well.

So you had an example of why expensive small ships should also be half points.

Boba Fett at the 2016 regionals. Triggered in five games of the eight played, dumping three Palpatines, an HLC from Dash, and a title from Dengar on the way.
Turning Dash into an awkwardly-PS'd blocker felt great.

Swinging well above his weight class I see!

And continuing to do so. I broke him out again last week for the first time since that Regionals, and promptly dumped an HLC on Dash again. It was at the end of the game when nothing was riding on it, but it still felt really good.

Howl + Crack

Black Crack

Black Crack

Black Crack

Black Crack

PS4 TIEshuttle Vader

EDIT: If you guys use this list, just call it the Singapore Swarm, thank you

You still let him shoot with his PWT right?

Lando on the Ghost. My first flight with the Ghost turned into a debacle. Against three Imp aces it didn't last four full turns. Second game I made some changes, one of them was adding Lando to the stack. He was great! Never failed to give at least one focus and one evade. Won the second and next two games. Been on almost all of the VCX builds since.

Sure, all two of them.
