Shadows in the Light (OOC)

By Ryoden, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I think a junkyard would be more interesting, but I'm fine with what everyone else agrees on.

Well, in spite of what I thought I'd play, the natural fit is for Fzaexx (silent F, pronounced zakes), a disgraced Falleen majordomo to a hutt of the Anjiliac kajidic.

Four years ago when the Empire struck Fzaexx was in charge of mustering his lord's forces to defend the moon. When the battle was at its fiercest, Fzaexx ordered all available ships into the fray. It wasn't until later he learned one freighter went in still loaded with spice in its smuggling compartments. This error cost the hutt dearly and Fzaexx barely begged his way out of an execution; instead he was only banished and blacklisted by his hutt lord. Barely making his way in the underbelly of Nar Shaddaa with no resources or allies, he settled in to managing a junkyard trying to turn enough credits to survive. Fzaexx knows that out there, somewhere, that score of spice still exists and if he could just find it he'd have enough credits to buy his way back to respectability....

I'll get his character sheet up on swsheets in a couple hours, but with only 90 starting xp I kinda need to take 10 obligation for 10xp (sorry guys!).

I think one of the others took an extra 10 too. Worse case we can't spend xp until we pay some back.

I think I took the extra 5 for credits

Ha ha, Shard took an extra 15 for credits.

Paying off Obligation can only be done through in game efforts by the way. It seems like you guys are going to be starting off with quite a lot of obligation so don't be surprised if we need to spend some time dealing with it . I don't require xp to be spent to pay off obligation. Any time something happens that makes your character less worried about their obligation make a post here and I'll rule on how much it goes down by. It will require a specific story line to completely remove an obligation though. Or if they are a part of your character that simply cant be resolved, it can sit at 1 forever.

Seems like there is consensus at least on a Business - Junk/Scrap Yard as your starting base of Operations. I am going to start designing it and will post more later.

Regarding the party Career Skill. Seems like it is both retail and service. You could therefore choose between Mechanics or Negotiation to become a career skill for your character. But it also seems that Vigilance sort of makes sense. Part of running a scrap yard is keeping an eye out for the rare gem that is hiding in the scrap. So I am deviating from the book here and letting you each choose which one of those three you want to add to your characters list of career skills. I am not making you chose one for the whole party. Respond with your choice please.

Tox has tinkered with her Vamblades and added Serrated Edge, doing so, she feels confident in her Mechanics ability. That is her choice.

Also, she updated her obligations based on team minimum, she has 5 in betrayal. She hates that her mentor betrayed her so deeply in the past.

  • Weedles and Fries - ?? - Ithorian Hired Gun Enforcer - Combat focus with some intimidation available

Oh, sorry about that. Forgot to share my sheet with everyone.

In regards to the bonus I think I'll take negotiation as it fits well with Neelig's personality.

Also, must apologize, I too took the 10 extra xp. 90 xp was just not enough.

I took 5 extra for credits.

I think Vigilance works best for S'zish.

Vigilance and Mechanics are both Career skills already for Khaine, so I'm going to go with Negotiation. Wheeling and dealing for the the best parts and tech as well as negotiating for bounty payments has paid off for Khaine and the skill comes more naturally to him now.

I guess I'm the only one that stuck with the base 10. But Khaine only recently lost almost everything when his bounty trap went bad and he had to run from a security squad that was going to ensure that he had a very bad day. He's managed to put enough credits together for basic gear while working at the shop for the last few months. Currently Khaine spends most of his spare time working to clear part of the junkyard and scrap together a workshop and foundry in order to start really working and tinkering. He's lofty ambitions include a setup that will allow everything from tools, weapons, armor to vehicle part fabrication and eventually repair and refitting.

I added a link for Neelig to the post I have above.

Looks like Neelig will be right up in the thick of things with Tox. Something tells me that I shouldn't buy the pulse rifle with blast 6. lol.

Right now I don't think I'm going to tie myself to either light or heavy. I'll play it by ear and see how the game shakes out.

@Ryoden, you mentioned that we are using EotE books only, however the rules for armor smithing were not repeated in special modifications (the engineer book). Will I be allowed to utilize those rules to make armor? I was thinking about making armor my big focus and eventually crafting my own heavy armor and then working on a custom weapon.

Does anyone have a schtick that they would like to make their own thing? For example, Shard mentioned a gunsmith shop, so if he wanted to specialize in gunsmithing I could stay away from that and focus on armor or if he's going full tech modder I could look into working on ships. Or if someone wants to focus on being the pilot, we let them be the best pilot of the group. Or if someone would like to be the face, etc.

Based on the idea that Tox lets her fists do the talking for her, she doesn't have much of a presence. she not charming, don't look at her to be a leader or start the team's negotiation.

I wanted her Cool to be higher than 1, but not her other presence skills, which I purposely wanted low. I don't know how to do this. I'd be more than willing to take a few hits on other skills she doesn't "have" 2-for-1, in order to beef cool up. Not for advantage, but for initiative purposes. I mean shes studied Martial Arts, you would think she would be mentally prepared to go into some hand to hand combat. Any ideas from the group how to accomplish this?

Well, with a vigilance of GGY and a cool of G. I'd guess that Tox is quick to react to the unexpected and lets her fists do her talking. When it comes to a good old fashioned showdown she's just not there yet. Has something happened recently that has her rattled or quick to anger? Once we get some XP under our belt you can boost cool and while she wouldn't have the stare of death, she would be calm and level headed. If I read your question correctly.

She was betrayed by her master, beaten and left for dead...

I just wanted her initiative rolls to be better than a G. Looking back at the rules, I can use Vigilance for this (as you also mentioned) dependent on the situation, so I guess I had a newb moment. Pretend this never happened.

I agree. Also, IMO, the mental preparedness would fall under discipline. The times which we would use Cool for initiative -should- be pretty low (unless we're constantly setting ambushes), and if this is the case I promise to give you my slot. ;)

Shes a brawn machine, so she could be the one that climbs up to affix ropes to help out the team, this also works with her species skill.

Adding rope to my inventory to account for this idea. Now at 0 credits and 9/9 encumbrance.

I'm rusty but I recall vigilance being the oh crap something happened initiative and cool being the high noon who goes first initiative.

That's what backpacks and belts are for. :)

Who needs a backpack or belt when you are a ninja? Well, a poor ninja...

Just a couple quick questions. How will things which reset once per encounter/session be handled? (Some talents, destiny pool, etc) Also, do we get the NPC helpers along with the junkyard? If so, will you be fleshing them out?

Finally, I've got Fzaexx's character sheet worked out and available here: http://swsheets.com/c/cc7gpjtbh-fzaexx

Yes of course. I only wanted to limit to Edge careers. Other rules are in play including items ships etc.

Looks like we got our mouth! Look at those skills for communication

I went ahead and revised my character sheet a bit before we actually started. Dropped the extra skills and talents, boosted Brawn up to 4, swapped out the concealing robes with a set of heavy clothing (cloak) to better fit the character (and the fact that he has no chance in a sneaking scenario cause, you know, he's pretty obvious even with a full robe on) and added some minor supplies as well with the credit difference. Hope this is alright since we haven't officially started.

That's fine.

Everyone, if you haven't done so already, add a note to your character sheet of what you spent your xp and credits on.
