Shadows in the Light (OOC)

By Ryoden, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Perhaps we run a mechanics shop? We have two mechanics type classes already. This allows us to have a home base that can earn some incidental credits as we are out and about.

outlaw tech runs it with help of scientist. That attracts the gadgeteer, who in turn notifies the martial artist. The enforcer gets recruited as the muscle.

Or a back water, biker bar, ala Expendables.

Any other thoughts?

Would the xml files help?

I've been entering them as we were going along so it is a bit redundant at this point. I'll make sure everything is accurate before we start.

What about a junkyard? Similar to mechanics shop, but more space to hide things or build a secret base if need be. Perhaps a small garage attached to a junkyard?

That allows for a lower profile to keep the fuzz off our backs as well as gives us justification to go to the wrecks

I'm voting for mechanics shop!

I could modify my obligation to include debt for it... I might have borrowed it from Shug Nix.

Have it be a mechanics shop, lower, lower level of the Corillian section of Nar Shadda.

Junkyard could be the rest of the level.

@Hinklemar

I so need a bigger guy for a friend!!

A wookie mechanic or something would be awesome but totally your choice!

I personally prefer the mechanics shop myself, with a close proximity to said junkyard. Use the shop as a front while keeping some old cargo containers and secretly retrofit them into a makeshift base away from prying eyes perhaps?

Ummm hmmm!!

Does each one do something different? I don't have Far Horizons so I can't check. But I can look in local store that might have it if we're going to be using it a lot.

Hey all, had a busier than expected day so only getting around to posting now. I'm totally down for a mechanics shop or junkyard, both fit Nar Shaddaa and the group. Right now I'm settling on Duros Explorer, but probably the Scout specialization (instead of Driver) as we're not starting with a ship.

Imperial Stormtrooper the main difference between homesteads vs businesses are the upgrades available for each and the career skill the party gets for owning it. For instance, if we stuck with a mechanic's shop for our business then we'd get Mechanics as a career skill. If instead we went with a junkyard as a "homestead" the closest equivalent would probably be a mine, giving the party Athletics as a career skill.

Last thing, do you have a character concept in mind?

Maybe we can do a blaster repair and range shop...

So from my GM perspective, my favorite idea voiced so far is the junkyard. That has a lot of potential for plot hooks.

I think a junkyard sounds great, with the aspirations of our own shop. Maybe a few shop tools with borrowed money?

I did a write up, I think I forgot to post it here.

The Idea I've come up with is a Gand Explorer_Big-Game Hunter

Junkyard/salvage shop does give us a good hook into salvaging ships. A small shop front for clients to hire us or for us to salvaged parts would give it the legitimate front. If we do go with that, then it looks like we would all get negotiations for a career skill. Quiet often you see garages attached to junk/salvage yards so having a garage be the main business front works too and would give all of us mechanics as a career skill. Either works for me.

I may have to make a small adjustment to my character depending on which we pick since as a human I selected negotiations as my human, non-career, skill. But it's just one free rank, so easy to switch if I need to. I get mechanics as a career skill anyway so no issues there.

Part of the reason that like the junk/salvage yard angle is it gives us a lot of space to park ships and hide stuff if need be.

So it looks right now we have

  • Ahrimon - Khaine - Bounty Hunter(Gadgeteer) - Combat/Mechanic - I was planning on leaning more towards the mechanical side and eventually getting outlaw tech, but I could go modder too.
  • Weedles and Fries - Neelig - Ithorian Hired Gun Enforcer - Combat focus with some intimidation available
  • TheShard - Shard - Omwati (Chiss?) Technician Outlaw Tech (Scientist Engineer?) - Mechanical/Computers/Knowledge focus
  • Mattimeo84 - Tox - Nictu Bounty Hunter Martial Artist - Combat focus
  • Imperial Stormtrooper - S'zish - Gand Explorer_Big-Game Hunter - Exploration/Combat
  • Hinklemar - Fzaexx - Falleen Colonist Entrepreneur - Social

It looks like right now we have a pretty good focus between mechanics, combat and a little exploration and scouting in our careers. Should be exciting.

Should we put the homestead to a vote?

Man, I go to sleep and the forum explodes! I'm good either way. If I had to vote purely based on skill acquired, I'd vote mechanics, but neither one really helps my character that much, so I don't have strong feelings one way or the other. But I'm leaning towards the idea of a small shop attached to a junkyard from a narrative perspective.

Also, while Tox is very combat focused, it's purely hand to hand. Hoping someone has a good ranged focus to cover my back!

I think you'll be ok. I haven't decided if Khaine will be pistol or rifle, but he'll be ranged and it looks like Weedles' character and S'zish will be ranged as well.

We could vote if so it's mechanics shop stretched to a junkyard...

I really like it having a shooting range and we are trying to gather new business by modding and repairing blasters. I think that takes in Khaine pretty well, Shard would want to do ship repair, or computer stuff but is settling for whatever lets him out on his own.

Plus a junkyard is a natural place for a gun range

We could do ranged light as a group skill...
