It would seem odd and quite limiting for a game of this type to restrict itself to only small armies, it is normal not to cap army size too much if at all but to let players agree on army size and deploy accordingly (referencing a certain other game :) - bigger armies of course meaning a longer, more challenging game and needing the space) - the limitations may be to best fit the initial releases and I wonder if longer-term expansions will have rules for fielding bigger armies.

X-Wing began with that idea of players agreeing on the points limit before the match, but also stated that tournaments will be set to 100 points. The result is that most players only ever focused on 100 points. I think it'll be the same with Runewars. You'll have most people trying to build up their 200-point tournament lists instead of playing more cinematic games. At least, it seems that's what FFG expects based on how players have treated their other games.

I would agree with that sentiment. It has been my experience that most players will gravitate towards playing at the "competitive" points limit. It just makes life easier when you are playing with the same units and synergies in your pick up games that you'll have access to in any events you play in.

Given how full the board felt with 175pts (we didnt have enough for 200) i'd be surprised if they up it to 300. Adding more than 1 more small unit would end up in forcing both armies to literally walk forward with no wiggle room.

I imagine if we get any massive creatures they'll have some huge drawback to keep their price down so they dont take half your list. Such as an inaccuracy issue, they dont hit small targets very well (tray dependent damage? such as 1 die per rank or something)

You guys sure your playing on a 6x3 board? I've played several 200 point games, and we've had LOTS of room. Even when forced to only set-up Range One from the back edge.

You gotta keep in mind you don't need to fit entirely in zone, if you can't fit you go on the back edge. This is all part of strategy for me. If I see you have a million units, I'll pick the most restrictive deployment zone for you and let you pick the mission.

He had 2 large spearman . He estimated his space poorly at the diagonal. But if you get 2 of the larger terrain pieces there is clearly not any extra room. Already have conga lines if you deploy against a refused flank. people are not realizing how much room things need to turn yet and how long it takes to go around one thing. I love the game! but it will always be 200 points, unless they decide to make it an upgrade arms race at 250. At 250 people would need to leave a unit out and take more upgrades.

6x3 every game 3 pieces of card board terain. Have been played about 35 games at 200, definitely no room for more units without making the game just run straight at each other. Placing terrain in the middle of the board 2.5 trays apart is a very common. Cutting off 3 feet of access to a 3 wide unit.

That's trippy dude. I wonder why we don't ever have that problem. Food for thought...

Looked at X-Wing and it does stick to a 3' by 3' play area and advise sticking to a 100 point squad (even though you can go higher), Armada has a similar but fixed 300 point cap - upgrade cards also use up points so I think you're right and all three games like to keep things quite tight without too much going on in the battle and total forces restricted. Other games sometimes rule that models that don't fit the table can be kept as reserves for reinforcements etc and X-Wing has rules for huge ships so I guess any expansions that make things a bit more complex deployment wise will have some logic that keeps things working, points costs, tougher decisions on the choice of units and upgrades, trade-offs of benefits and so on. Plus it may depend what gets released longer term.

@Maxam. Whatever evil magic Ardus is using it's dangerous! "Look into my eyeeeeees"
