New Tournament Posters! Waiqar Dragon spoiler??

It would be awesome to have huge multi (2?) tray minis...!

Flying units is a big deal. If it is coming, I don't expect it until after the other two factions, and I expect all 4 factions to get it at the same time. Or if not all of them getting something that flies, at least something just as big impact.

The artwork for this game is on point!

That dragon: echo of first edition Descent! Yay! Couldn't find a second edition mini that's as close a match but the box art for both editions of Descent has dragons, this is certainly an echo of that awesome D1e box art of the D1e Crypt Dragon which is the closest match (and a great sculpt, would be good to bring a similar sculpt into 2e, I like the D1e sculpt better than the 'Guardians of Deephall' D2e one, though both are great so I may make a new species for my D2e games to use both figures!)

The necromancer art is straight out of Battlelore (see Terrors of the Mists expansion box) which also has a building on the cover that would make a great scenery piece. Wallet: "Stop giving them ideas"

Second thought: The Battlelore connection means the poster dragon could most likely be a barrow worm- the artwork here suggests so- https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/10/1/the-invasion-begins-1/ but the creatures are so close visually with the holed and clawed fragile wings and horns it could be either, maybe they could get the great D1e version of the Crypt Dragon into D2e by bringing in a barrow worm monster with a similar sculpt?

If you read the Lore Book it mentions that the strongest necromancers can raise Barrow Wyrms, which are a unit for the Waiqar faction in the Runewars board game.

I've been wondering how many units from that and Battlelore will show up in this. if they post over the units from the board game we can expect vampires and death knights, along with the barrow wyrms, at least

The frost wyrm cometh...

Betcha anything the humans get a gryphon or roc.

The Barrow Wyrm has been a unit in Waiqar's army in Runewars, Rune Age, and BattleLore: Second Edition. It is the strongest unit that Waiqar's forces can summon.

What intrigues me must is if we Will finally see a flying unit for the uthuk.. It would be totally new

A two-tray Dragon or other "epic" figures would be absolutely awesome!

And I'd really like to see a Banshee, the corresponding BL2E miniature really freaks me out...

Yes and no. They had Ru Airgliders back in Diskwars, but we haven't seen a flying unit since then. Personally, I like the idea of not giving them flying units, but I could imagine some pretty neat flying units for them.

Yeah, it's probably a Barrow Wyrm. Those have been in nearly every game.

I think it's a fair bet that we will get the Barrow Wyrm for Waiqar, a Roc Rider for Daqan, a Pegasus Rider for Latari Elves, and a giant ? for Uthuk. Probably as a wave focused on flying units.

As far as the Uthuk are concerned, they are called the Locust and in Battlelore their second big unit was a giant beetle. I don't see some gigantic flying demonic bug of some kind as totally out of line. On the other hand, not having flying units could be the Uthuk's thing. Maybe instead getting artillery designed to shoot them down.

If you read the Lore Book

Is that something you can buy or online? I'd be interested as I make my own Descent quests, something to distract me while I save up for RWM :o)

On my wishlist too, one of the best figures ever designed for a game, as I said elsewhere it would be good to have a chained one and an escaped (freed?!) one

Here

tkundnobody/Orcdruid - Thanks both, I'll be buying the core box so I'll have it, plus there is the info in the other games, any other good resources for Runebound Universe lore? There's this article too I've just had a peek at. Interestingly it has the same image https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/2/13/the-land-of-steel/ And an image of Waiqar?: " One night, Waiqar Sumarion, the greatest general of the age and Timmorran’s friend, rode with his army .... Only Waiqar remained standing as the rain stopped. ... And the dead began to rise. ... Waiqar the Undying has never stopped in his efforts to recover the Orb of the Sky—at any cost. Only the Daqan Lords now stand in his way." I now think we might actually get to field Waiqar himself, after all the army bears his name! Something about this lore article seems to hint at that possibility.

If I'm right it's also calling Waiqar 'the betrayer'. I'm sure some people have been saying there is a betrayer of some form due in the game? Only going from memory of what I think I've read in the forums but if it's not my mind playing tricks on me with lore overload maybe this is another hint.

I'm also pondering something else- if the picture IS Waiqar, he looks a lot like Ardus only tougher (it may just be a picture of Ardus in a confusing place within the text!) A close look at the image vs that of Ardus makes it look like a similar but superior warrior, perhaps Ardus is of similar form, "Ardus Ix’Erebus is only one of many similar soldiers within the Deathborn Legion, the oldest and greatest army of Waiqar the Undying." https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/12/28/undead-cunning/ I now think the picture IS Waiqar rather than Ardus or they are entities that are part of the same force (Googling 'latin "ardus" or 'latin "erebus"' is interesting), FFG should really explore this interesting dynamic, they may be copied, possessed or otherwise echoed warriors in the likeness of Waiqar (a bit like Agent Smith existing in multiple forms in The Matrix) thus Waiqar lives (if you can live undyingly) in all of them including Ardus.

Waiqar as a 'bossed-up' version of Ardus would be great fun for both RWM and Descent, and that's basically what he looks like in that picture. Ardus, meh, wait til you meet Ardus' master! Go on FFG, spoil us.

Waiqar and Ardus? The Champions of Death echo the look too...

Probably like Armada it will come in wave 3, wondering if the game will be bumped up to 300?

There is not enough room. The deployment zone and the table where packed in my 200 points games this weekend. We had the corner set up one game and my opponent couldn't even fit his last unit, because he deployed poorly in the space allowed and the rulebook says the unit is lost if it cant fit. 3 pieces of terrain and the board seemed full to the max. 200 points is the limit for sure.

I was wondering if this would actually come up. Was this opponent running MSU, or was the unit loss purely do to not thinking ahead?

The 200 points could limit expansion potential though, but if that's something of a pre-set limit of how the game is designed it may just have a tight battlefield dynamic, could be that upgrades will force you to make choices as to which units you field, or they'll come up with something to allow bigger armies on bigger battlefields if you have the space and when the range of figures has grown.

It would seem odd and quite limiting for a game of this type to restrict itself to only small armies, it is normal not to cap army size too much if at all but to let players agree on army size and deploy accordingly (referencing a certain other game :) - bigger armies of course meaning a longer, more challenging game and needing the space) - the limitations may be to best fit the initial releases and I wonder if longer-term expansions will have rules for fielding bigger armies.

Of course it may be that the game has to have those limits to work, in which case this could be an Achilles heel vs other games of the type. There would always be the option if you did want to have a huge battle to split things into multiple games functioning as one but happening separately. Trays can get cheaper points-wise for extras though so the points may allow for quite a sizable army as they are. We shall see!
