Let's blow up some mines!

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing

So, how bad would it break the game if you could shoot mines to remove them? Why is it not a thing we can do right now? Am I not seeing any glaring reason why this can't be a possibility in a future errata/update?

On the surface, I'd say that it would require perfect placement in order to avoid having a significant chunk of your list points being picked off. But then again missiles can be evaded, bombs can be misplaced and even mines can just sit around the board for the rest of the match so I'd call fair game.

Label mines as obstacles with their own particular rule sets and let seismic torpedoes take the Conner Net off the board.

Wouldn't make a huge difference with how mines are used in practice in this game. You can always use the non-ship targeting rules from scenarios as house rule, though.

Missile Firing mines: treat this token as having agility 2. At the end of the activation phase this token can attack one target at range 1-2 with a 2 dice attack. This token also detonates like a proximity mine when overlapped by a ship or maneuver templet.

when this token is hit by an attack it 'explodes' (not detonating, but is removed after attack) and fires a 4 die missile attack at the attacker, changing one blank to a *hit* result. The ship rolls defense dice as normal.

revenge of the space sim mines!

I managed to get over the nightmares I had about those things about a decade ago. Thanks for bringing my night terrors back.

This would be great with Snap Shot.

Yeah attacking mines I don't see happening. However I would be perfectly fine with an errata for seismic torpedoes to be able to remove a bomb or obstacle toke off the board. The only thin is that would put both proton bombs as well as mines vulnerable to get shot. Proton bombs are already difficult to employ effectively and Genius which was already a liability to begin with becomes even more so a liability.

However you could do some interesting tricks like deploy a seismic charge then have your next skill (like a 4 or 5) shoot it and detonate it before the higher pilot skill has a chance to get out of the way. Also some cool tricks you can do with a TIE Punisher with cluster mines and seismic torpedo. Deploy mines. Next turn 5K and green 1 an you will be all set to set off a mine remotely.

Minesweeper system upgrade.

This makes the most sense...minesweepers are generally specialized vehicles.

Could be something like "When your base or template overlaps a mine or bomb token, you may remove that token from play without taking damage."

So you can still be splash damaged -- the minesweeper has to deliberately wipe out the bomb.
