Flying this list: help

By captainpatch, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've only recently gotten into X-Wing and my overall experience in tactical aptitude is very limited, and so is my complete knowledge of the FAQ. I'm just hoping for feedback on 3 things:

1) How should I position these ships initially and how should I plan to fly it (i.e. with a flanker, tighter group, etc)?

2) How should I plan out my attacks with each ship?

3) Do I ideally want to start with initiative or not, or does it not matter either way?

My list is as follows: Darth Vader - Predator, Proton Rockes, Engine Upg / Soontir Fel - PTL, Autothrusters, Hull Upg, RGT / Omega Leader - Juke, Comm Relay.

Let me know too if there is any other tactical advice I should know with flying this list. Any and all is appreciated, thanks!

Well, you basically have yourself a regular imperial aces list with some arc-dodgers that need to be flown as such. Definitely don't let Soontir get caught in a block or head on joust. Vader can deal with it a little more so I'd play more straight with him and give Soontir room to work.

Basically split the two of them and start slow to see what your opponent goes for first. Use your boosts and barrel rolls to avoid enemy arcs and try to keep your distance so you don't end up getting blocked. OL can basically just try to get his target lock on whatever is your prime target and go to work.

This is a really difficult list to fly for beginners. I'd recommend taking the smallest rocks so you can maneuver around them easier because other than getting blocked, landing one of these guys on a rock can also spell doom for them. Just practice a bunch if you like them and you'll get better at predicting what the enemy will do. Experience makes you a better arc-dodger so just keep playing. Good luck. (Also get the Tie x1 and Advanced Targeting Computer cards or proxy them to make Vader a little more playable).

Hard for beginners yes. I cry some time when my first flys. Don't go strait. Think as some sharks that will go for a pray.

You can train with a race, alone or not, for learn to fly around the rocks. Break the game of the opponent and kill them one by one

Can I recommend swapping predator on Vader for adaptability, than those three points can go towards a stealth device on omega leader. Vader can either play at PS10 above some PS9 aces like Soontir or Whisper, but if PS8 is already higher than your opponents ships, drop Vader to 8 so he can be the same as Omega Leader and you can trade off their shooting/moving.

Also Stealth Device work much better on Soontir than hull upgrade does.

Hope that helps
