Fair 'nuff
Tournaments Restrictions
im no where near as good as Tvayumat when it comes to painting but if by some stroke of ... well i guess bad luck .. requiring painted armies becomes a thing i might start taking commissions in my area. I usually aim for table quality +1, looks amazing when playing, might look a bit odd up close and personal. I used to have people asking me to paint their 40k models but i just had way too many of my own to paint to take any commissions lol.
Plus, i enjoy painting fantasy stuff more than scifi anyway. Dont know why but i just love painting medieval weapons and armor yet i HATE PAINTING GUNS >.<
My warzone resurrection models look infinitely better than my 40k, despite also being a scifi plot technically. That one is more like traditional armor style with random technology thrown in though.

A what ?

To play in a GW you don't have to paint your minis, that was a long time ago for their tournaments I don't know but I think they aren't doing tournaments themselves anymore.

They used to require all minis to have a minimum of 3 colours on them to even play in a store. Good to hear they dropped that nonsense then.

they didn't necessarily drop it they just made a specific type or category of tournament that requires fully painted armies...

Could be becuase you REALLY want to paint them but still have Waiqar still to paint

For their stores they completely droped it, als Toqtamish said all minis had to have at least 3 colours and had to be based and that rule was also used for their stores but it was dropped long ago, as I have never played tournaments I can't say anything about that.

Yeah GW stores never ran the master's tournaments or whatever they call them, Privateer has a similar tournament tier called Hardcore i think...I don't remember terminology...I think running a tourney like that would be a terrible idea anyway...
Depends if you do pictures it looks much better same for the stores in the past your minis had to be painted if you wanted to play there, regardless if you played a tournament or for fun, which would look better then plastic grey armies fighting each other or even half build armies clashing for new customers that entered the store.

yeah but you end up alienating a lot of people that would be participating in the tourney

I know but if your player base is big enough you still get full tournaments and that was the case in GW's heydays and you could say this is a incentive to paint your army, I would say 3 colours + base is doable but then doing painted + unpainted tournaments or just give a price for best painted army is the better solution.
just do the 3 step process from Army Painter. Spray- paint- dip. done. anyone can do that even if they're brand new to painting, it would get them interested in it, but yeah i don't think requiring them to be painted is a big deal.
Yeah the utmost basic paintjob that Army Painter advertises is really easy. The main issue is people see the detail on the model and want to make it pop, even if they dont have the talent to do so. Applying a heavy wash over a very, very basic paintjob is called "liquid skill" for a reason lol
Or the $30 price tag on one of those cans...

You can also get the washes in 18ml bottles for $3.25 if you don't want to bother with the big cans.

well, gotta realize just how much that is giving you. That 30 can will probably last you forever....modeling paints last a lot longer than most people think they do. Washes go up faster than regular paint, but not by much.

Oh I know that. It is still a big chunk to spend.

Indeed, it appears that FFG is planning to do just that. From the Organized Play Quarterly Kits article :

It sounds cool, except for the part where every quarter the same guy wins because he is so far ahead of the rest of your playgroup in painting skills.
Edited by ParakitorIt was easy to predict. They are focusing on the hobby

I'd imagine it would be a random prize. Selected from everyone that showed up with a painted army.

I thought that too, but their going to include guidelines in the Kit on how to judge the paint jobs i.e. "painting award criteria." I think it's going to be a legitimate aspect of the competition.

Even better a card/dice/template/token or some such that is only given to players with painted armies. Thus making the ideal, paint your blokes and get something. You don't even have to do it well.
