New Waiqar hero

Well I know they aren't 1:1 perfect carbon copy but the point is that the poses are pretty much the same

It's gotta be a matter of providing a nostalgic reference point for Decent players. They look at the villain and say, "Dude! Do you remember when we faced that guy and he almost wiped out our whole party?" Keeping the pose the same creates an identity for the character to cross multiple games. Even the Necromancer is pretty much the same as BattleLore and Rune Age. I like it.

There is also some cost-savings involved. True, they have to build an all-new sculpt for the printer, but they don't have to pay a 3D modeler to design a unit from scratch. They just say, "Here, take this file and mess with it. Make it work for the dimensions of our new game. Maybe add some extra details since it will be a bigger model."

Okay, that is thematically jarring.

Unless he was converted

So the terrifying visage of Ardus approaching with wooden stakes in hand was enough to compel Kyndrithul to fall in with Waiqar. I could see that working.

In the Descent story, does Ardus succeed in his assassination attempt, or does the story remain open on that count?

But at the same time they want a fresh feeling for this game and to show that the character isn't just this static model that is unchanging in every game they make. It really is just opinion between you and I, I can see the merit in what you're saying. Im fine with it now I just think I'd like to see some different poses in the future.

They could of fought to a standstill and he could of given himself over to bide his time like all good evils

Not everyone plays Decent though. I don't. So to me and new players this is a new model

You saw my point about it being opinion, right?

Yup. Sorry, I am tired

No problem, my friend. Descent is seriously an amazing game if you ever get the chance to play.

Edit, nope I see what you mean now.

Looking at this it'd be cooler if the staff was more like the concept art. Right now it looks like a facehugger on a stick.

Read through the topic a bit. There is a picture I posted in post 4 or 5. Look behind the infantry, next to the Carrion Lancer.

Anyone else thinking of doing a conversion with the new Wizkids D&D/Pathfinder models? They have some clear acrylic parts that could make some amazing spell effects

Yea and my eyes were drawn to the necromancer in the front line. Totally missed the hero in back.

Looking at that Necromancer, I've been thinking of chopping his hand off at the wrist and rotating the hand to make it more like the picture. Then add some green-stuff for fire effects around the hand and paint it like the 2-dimensional art shows. But then, I won't own a necromancer, so that's not going to happen.

*SPOILERS*

It depends on if the heroes win or lose. If they win, he's killed outright. If they lose, Ardus drags him away. But understand that Kyndrithul is bats*** crazy - there's no "scaring him straight".

So actual story, heroes lost and he got dragged away and 'converted'

I think it much more likely that someone's custom miniature made it into that picture.

Wouldn't it be interesting if he might have some kind of cross-faction ability that allows you to use some limited-list of Waiqar units and Daqan units together the way Kari allows you to use a Latari unit? Perhaps make it that he's working for Waiqar now, but refusing to work with Ardus (no Waiqar uniques?)

It would make perfect sense to effectively make him a subfaction, letting him purchase any Waiqar units other than uniques.

This guide is actually quite nice. I really dig that Pale Carrion Lancer paint scheme and the Breathless Legion.

Anyway, that vampyr looking guy does look rather odd. Isn't the wizard hero expansion also due out with the Command Expansion? I only say that because the odd-looking dude might simply be a stand-in because Army Painter wasn't able to get the figure or something.

I would think it was a descent mini that got mixed in, but several people have said the minis look different.

I don't think anyone's said specifically that this guy looks different - they were just talking about the approach used with Ardus. This is the Descent mini. It looks identical to me.

FullSizeRender.jpg

You'll also notice in the page 15 photo that Kyndrithul looks pretty small next to Ardus. My Descent mini looks small next to the RW version, but not next to the Descent version.

I'm not saying Kyndrithul isn't going to be a hero for RW, but based on seeing just that one grainy photo, I'm suspicious.
