Pairing Miranda w/ Expertise Rey

By AT Leader, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Can I get an opinion on which version of Miranda I should pair with Rey w/ Expertise? I am pretty set on keeping EU, but am open to potential opinions.

EXPERTISE REY + MIRANDA TLT

100 points

PILOTS

Rey (62)
YT-1300 (45), Expertise (4), Kanan Jarrus (3), Finn (5), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version) (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Miranda Doni (38)
K-Wing (29), Twin Laser Turret (6), C-3PO (3)

OR

EXPERTISE REY + MIRANDA [BOMBS]

100 points

PILOTS

Rey (62)
YT-1300 (45), Expertise (4), Kanan Jarrus (3), Finn (5), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version) (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Miranda Doni (38)
K-Wing (29), Sabine Wren (2), Seismic Charges (2), Proximity Mines (3), Advanced SLAM (2)

You want a bomber, don't do Miranda. She activated too late to bomb very effectively; I'd go with option one, or use a Warden, as you get both more bombs, and a better PS to use them with.

Demonstrably wrong. A-SLAM allows her to find her targets anyways. Many players have been successful with her.

However she is not good enough as Bomber to give up the TLT. You are better off using either your first, very solid list (add LRS because it is free and allows you to stack actions), or going with an all in bomber Warden who gets a mix of the 4 point mines and maybe an Autoblaster Turret.

Edit: There is not actually enough points for a turret in that case, this is the list I would build:

Rey (45)
Expertise (4)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Warden Squadron Pilot (23)
Extra Munitions (2)
Sabine Wren (2)
Conner Net (4)
Cluster Mines (4)
Advanced SLAM (2)

My favourite bomber at the moment is Ashoka with Sabines masterpiece, whatever bomb u want, captured tie and scavenger crane. This combo means you can bomb whatever you want without getting shot at, there's only a 1/4 chance u don't recover the bomb and Ashoka gives a free action meaning that u could discard expertise for something else. I've been preferring her to Miranda and the Y-Wings. Also if you fly Rey with Ashoka and Biggs the support from both makes the combo insanely hard to bring down (though tough on points). At least consider Ashoka if you've got your heart set on a bomber as I see you're not using Miranda for the turret upgrade slot.

Seeing as the purpose of bringing Miranda is for late game regen I agree that the first list is better.

What are some other Rey wingmen that you have found success with?

I have been considering flying a Miranda/Biggs/Ashoka list to free up the crew slot on Miranda, maybe C-3PO. How have you been kitting it out?

Rex acts as a mini-Biggs. Bandits will block both the opponent and even can block Rey if it makes sense...with Expertise, she doesn't care that much. The key is timing that first engagement. If you miss those initial blocks or leave a lead blocker out to dry by himself, it can put you in a bad spot.

Rey (45)
Expertise (4)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Smuggling Compartment (0)
Countermeasures (3)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Captain Rex (14)

I am intrigued by this type of build, but I don't know if this style or Rey w/ an end game is best. I have experience in the past with RAC + Ace and so that play style is comfortable with me.

Rey/Norra might be the best single-wingman combo, but Norra can blow up shockingly fast.

Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Smuggling Compartment (0)
Countermeasures (3)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Norra Wexley (29)
Push the Limit (3)
C-3PO (3)
R2-D2 (4)
Vectored Thrusters (2)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

I just don't like flying Rey exposed, which is how I feel she is with a single wingman. With a mini-swarm, if they fire at Rey, that might be preferred because that means they're probably firing without mods from actions and there are more guns firing back. If they fire at the blockers, that's no big deal...that's why they're there. There's not much to screw up with that mini-swarm, you just have to time that initial encounter well. Once the dust-up happens, you're usually in control. You have blockers doing their thing, Rey able to sloop all around or pop Dampeners if it makes sense.

Thanks for your comments thus far!

i see a trend developing of Smuggling Compartments for Inertial Dampeners & Countermeasures over EU. Who can tell me why they choose one or the other?

I personally have used EU because it helps get me out of arcs/trouble, close to R1. I have considered Glitterstim with CM for that one turn you inevitably take more then one shot, but that takes Rey up to 63 and it is amazing how much that one point closes down options for wingmen.

that being said, I was a HUGE fan of what ID did to my opponents when they had to play around it the whole time.

Thoughts?
