Star Wars Battlefront 2 (videogame) Trailer Features Raider Corvette

By Arttemis, in X-Wing

I congratulate Fantasy Flight on getting one of their very own ships into a video game.

Way back when, at West End Games when we saw the Victory, Interdictor, Strike and Carrack Crusiers, and their Mon Cal equivalents show up in novels like Heir to the Empire and Lucas Arts Video games let me tell you there were few dry eyes in the editorial pit.

Proud of you guys.

Hopefully, the campaign adds to the weak lore of the Raider and it's not just used like the GR-75 in EA's first Battlefront. That thing was everywhere but was just a set piece.

A glimpse of the all-era spanning sequel includes a glimpse at the Raider Corvette!

Sorry folks, guess it just wasn't meant to be. The Mouse says so...:P

Gotcha fam

Can't say I'm excited about fighting in the prequels or TFA-era. Seems like a lot of time wasted in "Not the OT", my least favorite category. But hey.

But that glimpse of (at least what I think is) the campaign looks so awesome. I've always wanted more stories centered on Imperial troops, and right after the death of the Emperor is some delicious territory for that story. This does require a good story telling from Dice, but I really liked the little companies that put in Battlefield 1, so I believe there is hope.

Certainly looks amazing. Focused on Imperial specops so Yey. I guess hoping for limited paid DLCs is pointless.

Let's hope for a good gameplay

Who else liked the ARC-170 over the Scariff shield gate?*

I hope that they show the Raider in the Han Solo movie.

*never mind.

Does that mean we'll get a Raider fix?

I didn't see an arc

Oops. Miss saw an X-wing.

Looks like the Raider is used by special forces. I am really happy to see the ship in the official canon. It looks so good. My favorite model of the game.

Gosh, this Raider being featured so prominently makes me happy. Appears like it will be the vehicle for the campaign, however that will look. Would be nice to have a campaign so there is some value in that game 5 months in, because lets be real, multiplayer won't be sustainable if they don't do things in a very un-EA/DICE way. The CoD-style progression mill they have become so comfortable imitating is on its way out finally and there can only be so many games in that space at the same time. I don't expect them to get that together, wouldn't mind a suprise, though.

So I've watched the panel, and to my greatest surprise I'm optimistic.

Classes! Space combat! Space combat with classes! PREQUELS! Actual real canon and well researched and integrated campaign about new stuff in an unexplored period!

They tease A LOT of content. There will be locations, characters and spaceships specific to eras, most likely also some campaign maps and heroes. The game looks so far like it's closer to the Season Pass BF:EA than the sorry state it was at the release.

Although it was a bit funny when they tried to sell grind as "hero's journey" :P

(and to guys who booed at preorder bonuses, I love you!)

That longer clip that came out today has soooo much raider in it.

I haven't been that excited about a commercial for anything in a long time.

I don't even play these games but that trailer is amazingly good.

Was just about to point this out. Kinda cool that a ship that FFG made up made it into another Star Wars product. Good to see Lucasfilm is still letting the the synergy happen. Full reveal video in case anyone missed it:

IF EA was smart, and REALLY wanted to go above and beyond the previous game, and even the Orginal titles, they would allow CROSS era combat, IE : Rebel VS CIS, Republic VS Empire, First Order VS Empire....

And for maps, let the player PICK any hero of the faction they are on, instead of limiting it to "one hero choice per map". Some players dont like playing as Papitine, rather play as Fett, or Vader...

And cant stress this enough, at least for Single player, ADD EU Ships.... Tie Defenders, K-Wings, Punishers, etc.....

Defenders are definitely possible, especially with Rebels pulling bringing them back into canon in this last season, and looks to have them featured in season 4. The others, who knows?

elements I would like to see is some more coop modes, AI matches, and Galactic Conquest. If they can refine Fighter Squadron more and add more ships, I'll be happy too.

That campaign does sound dope, though.

I'm wondering if the campaign will involve the battle of Jakku. That would be pretty sweet.

Also the female lead is obviously alive at the time of TFA and is part of the First Order. I wonder if she'll be some minor character in The Last Jedi or something to tie it in.

Defenders were in the first one's DLC already - it's kind of how we got the big tip that they'd end up being canon for realsies. Playable, possibly - they seem to be lending to more variety and options than the more arcadey feel of their original endeavour. I'm interested to see if this will fill in other gaps though - new ST era ships, other ships in the interim period, fighters in the OT era which haven't shown...

I want to care about the game, i want to get it. but my wallet and previous titles tell me to just forget about it. I didnt get the first EA BF. I didnt get Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1 or any new EA title since BF4. The launch of the BF3 and 4 were just so terrible, as well as any form of moderation on that game after the year it to for them to work out all the bugs they made for it, just made me blacklist the company from my wallet completely.

I dont understand why Disney decided to side with EA to give them exclusive rights....makes zero sense with there track record.

Also: EA won't sell their games on Steam.

So...odds of purchase from me? 0%

Still, look forward to seeing screenshots posted from others and hearing how this fills in any gaps in the canon...

Cannon is pretty dead to me. It ended when Disney bought out Starwars and deleted the Orginal EU, sure, it wasnt perfect, there were indeed things even I didnt like about it, but the fact was it was ESTABLISHED, and around long enough that it should never have been dismissed in its entirety.

So apparently they've admitted BF:EA DLC policy was a mistake, and there won't be a season pass this time...

And they want most/all DLCs to be free.

That's not posible. I sense a plot to destroy gaming.

The guy on the panel mentioned ship classes, I think we'll have something akin to BF2 with interceptor/multirole/bomber/gunship.

Maybe a bit mixed up.

There is hope for playable Y-wings so that's good.

That sounds too good to be true...

I do wish more games would have Overwatches buisness model. Initial payment keeps out the majotity of trolls and makes bans sting, everything gameplay-relevant is availiable at all times (seriously, screw you CoD for establishing that load of bs) and the publisher gets to sell meaningless cosmetic stuff so they have a stake in keeping the game going. What these cosmetics would be? I have no idea. For rebels it can be species and individual things. For the empire, though? Maybe some rank markings. Post-Endor could also have room for individualism. And paintjobs for fighters!
