Upping Ryad's ante

By DirtDevil, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Now that I've been playing for a little while and amassed a semi decent collection, I've decided to try to put together my *signature* Imperial list - you know what I mean, the list that your known for, the list that makes the other players in your gaming group groan when they see it because it's such a pain to play against. ?

Since Imperial Veterans was my last purchase, I'd like to include Countess Ryad on that list. What I'd like to know is: What are some of people's favorite, upgrades, mods, ept's, etc. that they like to use to give Ryad a boost?

Push the Limit, TIE/x7, and twin ion Mk2

Unfortunately, I don't have the TIE Mk II mod and without that I'm a little iffy on PTL since I won't have the extra green maneuvers.

Right now I've got the TIE/D title and flechette cannon down as possibilities.

Juke and x/7 Title is good also. This build does not require the TIE MkII Engine, but with stress control coming back, it could be useful to keep the title from getting turned off.

Yes, I see juke being used somewhat regularly in matches I've watched and having some control over an opponent's defense roll can't be a bad thing.

I know you don't have it, but this is the best. And I've tried flying Ryad this way without the engines and holy crap did I miss them!

I know it sounds crazy and expensive, but I like playing with PTL,x7,EU. Yes removing stress is trickier, but the boost after a K-turn helps keep arc.

i also agree with Obi!

EU is definitely worth consideration

This is what I'll start play-testing with:

Countess Ryad 27

Expert Handling 2

Flechette Cannon 2

Engine Upgrade 4

TIE/D title 0

Backdraft 27

Accuracy Corrector 3

Spec Ops Training 0

Delta Squadron Pilot 30

TIE/x7 title -2

100 points

PILOTS

Countess Ryad (37)
TIE Defender (34), Expertise (4), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

“Omega Leader” (26)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

Glaive Squadron Pilot (37)
TIE Defender (34), Tractor beam (1), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/D (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Yup, still no TIE Mk II

I've flown her with Lone Wolf and Engine Upgrade and x7 for a really fast ship that can change her arc like mad. Tons of fun, but not very competitive because if you 2k into a boost you don't get any tokens.

I have tried a few variants.

x7 EU ptl was good fun but 7 points on upgrades does add up and not sure the low ps really benefitted enough.

x7 ptl ion engines are ok, not too pricey and does a sound job, but if you not got it!

my current favourite

lone wolf x7 stealth device. Potential rerolls in attack and defence, 4 green dice with evade, focus and a reroll is durable, the lone wolf even helps with the new iteration of palp as you can roll, then pick up a blank and palp that when rerolled. If you didn't get a blank then you can focus if it's an eye.

My brother flies something very similar.

Backdraft

VI

Fire Control System

Title

Countess Ryad

PTL

Mk 2 Engines

X7

Colonel Vessery

Adaptability

Mk 2 Engines

X7

Backdraft it the star of the list. Being able to set up TL for Vess and dishing out crits like nobody else, Ryad flies around like the annoying pain she is, and Vess is Vess.

Hmmm, exchanging Delta for Vessery is an interesting idea....

I fly my Ryad with PTL, TIE/x7 and Stealth Device. Harder to clear stress, yes, but the extra agility is worth it, imo.

I use Predator and TIE Mk2 with /x7 Ryad. It's not quite a potent as the more common PtL version at the same cost (and doesn't work for setting up Vessery TLs), but opens up the dial and gets a reroll even if actionless.

I have starting using crackshot with x/7 and I really like it. I have also used predator and that worked well also. With just crackshot and x/7 you get a really good 33 pt. ship. Also, crackshot cannot be shut down by stress and is basically a one use guaranteed extra hit. I like Juke but if your opponent has more than one token (which is really common) then it is almost worthless. Plus, that ept is entirely reliant on the evade token.
