Past Life Enemies - C-3PO necessary?

By uwjoseph, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi all,

I'm playing Past Life Enemies tomorrow evening and as I was reading the mission parameters, I couldn't figure out whether C-3PO is actually necessary to the Rebels. The doors are locked, and it says that the Rebel heroes can attack the doors (health is equal to mission threat), but it does not say what actually happens when the heroes do full damage to the door. Does it just unlock (meaning someone would have to interact to actually open the door)? Does it open? Does it then make it possible for C-3PO to interact with it to open the door?

C-3PO is able to open the doors and discard terminals, but it doesn't look like he's actually necessary to the Rebels' efforts. If he's not necessary, then I can easily see Gaarkhan doing a full move and then Charge at one of the doors and opening it on the first move of the game, giving the Rebels 7 full rounds to finish the objective. Thoughts?

Typed wrong mission name

I don't have the rulebook in front of me, but unless otherwise specified:

Doors are destroyed (removed from map) when it has suffered damage equal to its health

If mission says "C-3PO is able to open the doors", then an interact (1 action) from C-3PO will suffice

The only reason why a mission might say "This door is locked" is so that you must destroy it or do something to unlock it (and you may interact to open it once it's unlocked)

What's Hunt Them Down? Do you mean Past Life Enemies?

In addition to saving rebel actions by interacting, C-3PO can Inform them to give the focused condition.

When an object has suffered damage equal to its health, it is destroyed and removed from the map. When a door is destroyed, it is considered to have opened. (To trigger mission rules that depend on a door opening.)

Yeah, I think focused is where his value will come from. An additional green die will help bring those doors down quicker.

And not only doors...

Thanks guys, and yes, I meant to type Past Life Enemies, I don't know why I had Hunt Them Down in my head.

I am well aware that having C-3PO focus them will certainly be beneficial, my question was more about whether C-3PO was required in any way for the Rebels, and it seems he is not. I thought this was kinda strange, since the mission details reference him quite a bit. ricope, thanks for the bit about Doors are destroyed (removed from map) when it has suffered damage equal to its health , as that's really the key here. I thought that was probably the case, but I couldn't remember the RRG specifically mention that, but it certainly does under "Attacking Objects".

There are things other than doors to shoot? :P

Not sure what you mean by required. It's been a bit since I've played this mission, but isn't he in the starting group?

No, he's not in the starting group. The Rebels have to spend an action to 'activate' him, at which point he becomes an ally

Ahhh, I remember that now.

Also note that each time C-3PO gets deactivated, the rebels can reactivate him. It took a while to get it sorted out in my head when I first read the mission rules.

Having C-3po allows you to open the doors instantly with out destroying them. everytime he gets defeated the rebels can re-activate him, they dont have to, he is not a lose condition. In my last Twin shadows campaign, 3PO opened the last door and was meet by Kayns firing squad, blasting him to pieces. the rebels still won the mission

Hunt them down, is Bivs reward card.

Yeah, the side missions mini-campaign story missions ( :P ) that come in small boxes do seem to use the ally/villains a little more heavily than big box stuff, at least proportionally.
