New life - Old ships

By SlappyWhite, in Star Wars: Armada

I am making an assumption here, but I like to think most of us in the Armada community really liked the way the CC box expanded the game adding missions, obstacles, and new cards and pilots to existing squads. Now to risk some wish listing I would like to see some basically dead or near dead models like the Victory and Neb B get a similar treatment to CC. Come out with a card/cardboard only set that offers new points costs, cards and maybe even upgrades to the ships that seem to be missing from the meta. Call it Repair and Refurbish or something. I would buy it...well i will buy anything armada, but still would love to see some missing ships be found again.

I just think to consider the Neb-B and Victory as "Missing" or "Dead" as they are, is horridly short-sighted.

Relay is a huge boost to both of these ships. Jerjerrod is boost to VSDs. FFG is doing just what you are suggesting.

The Neb-B never died or went away. I've seen (and played) Salvation and Yavaris plenty of times over the last year!

Vics are missing?

Relay helps VSD a little, but unless you're spending 30 points on 2 shuttles, you're still only relaying 2. At that point, might as well just buy a Gozanti for 23 points and save 50 for something else. Large activations are great, but if you're relying on Relay to help your VSD, you're not making large activations.

There's an argument to be made (Having been away for a while, I lack the experience to say if it is true) that the Quasar will supplant the VSD in its role as a carrier. If that proves to be true, the VSD might need a little love.

The Nebulon B will always have a place as long as Yavaris and Salvation exist.

I'd like for this as well. It would be nice to run a Neb without it's title just because I want to run a Neb. I change to it's front arc would also breathe new life into the ship. The crazy narrow 3 dice front is not very enticing to take, even with Salvation.

The thing that kills the Vic is the lack of speed. The maneuver chart doesn't bother me too much, but not being able to run at 3 makes it difficult to use how I envision.

See, and I'm just the opposite. I really don't mind the Speed 2 at all. It's the single Yaw that makes it so easy to outmaneuver.

Moff Jerry is the answer. He makes the Victory sing in the right hands.

As for Nebulons, I think Sato revitalized them. Yavaris is once more desired for squadron-hevy lists and Salvation is simply terrifying with its two black one red at long range for a potential of 8 damage.

Dude, Spinal, 2 red 2 black. Then CF in a 3rd black and get braced.

I'm hoping that the Quasar and Vics can work side by side in the future with a dominating squadron presence. Either with Sloane or Jerry in some defensively minded fleets.

I half agree with Undeadguy, that the Neb-B is lackluster without its titles. I'd rather take a CR90A or MC30s if we discount titles.

I think specific variants suffer more Modified Pelta-Class Assault Ship for instance I just can't figure its place without having to design an entire list and invest a lot of points to try and make it okay. The Assault Frigate MKII A is also one I just never click on as the B version helps push squadrons around and if I'm making a brawling ship list I'd rather use any of the other shooty ships. Similarly Gozanti Assault Carriers rarely feel worth the extra five points but this can all be just personal opinion.

I think if anything the interdictor and pelta need a new lease on life!

To sound like a broken record. I hated Vic's but with Moff JJ it's great!

My opinion is the Vic is in a healthy spot. Though I think the problem is a perspective one. The Vic tends to lean toward obj play where it can use it slow roll to rack up points.

Based on what is already revealed of Wave 6 I think Vic gets a tiny boost oddly in external racks since its cheap and can be used on in anti-squad in a slot the Vic 1 tends to keep open.

I thought VSDII was supposed to fix the sluggishness of the VSDI by having improved engines. Apparently that's a bit harder to depict in the Armada system of abstractness.

This is about the only spot I see an obvious problem for the VSD. The Quasar appears (based on the previewed cards, so far) to have both the Offensive Retrofit (expanded hangars, etc) and Gunnery Teams (flight controllers) slots that make the Victory really sing as a carrier. Yet in comparison it will be vastly cheaper, can support more squadrons in its stock configuration, even as it becomes TOTALLY less able to hang in with the gunline - which is really what you want from a true carrier, in the first place.

I mean, I run the VSD *a lot*. Pretty much exclusively, really. Yet, take away its role as a 'carrier', and who still runs a VSD? It does that one thing REALLY WELL, and is kind of inadequate at everything else.

So, yeah, I could see a need to drop a new title, or something like that, to help it stay relevant once the Quasar is out. (But that really is where the issue comes from - at the moment, it's in a great spot. JJ really helped fix that ship!)

Probably a separate issue, but I'd like to see a Nebulon B2 and Sundered Heart/Farsight expansion.

With the Hammerhead getting some kind of new mechanic, i.e task force, I wonder if the same will be implemented to other small ships.

The idea of releasing new versions of ships from earlier waves by cardboard only is not new, it already came up during wave 2 if I remember correctly. Question is if FFG would invest time and resources to balance new versions of old ships against the current meta(s) just to sell some cardboard packs for 10-15$. My assumption is no, they wont invest it and will continue to just throw new stuff at us, at full price.

Honestly wave 5 is the first time I've used the Vic since wave 1... Straight up, Tua made VSDs into a very durable gunship. The kinda ship that's perfect for setting up a PT at 3/4 the power for 30% less cost...
