My first character creations. Help with droid pc?

By Edgehawk, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have recently created a few characters (my first, apart from helping my young son to create a starting character a while back).

One of the PCs is a droid, and initially I gave him two specs; subsequently, I recreated the same character, using some advice I was given. By limiting him to a single spec, I was able to raise his primary characteristic to a 4. I personally like the talents, and obviously this second version is starting with fewer, but the addition to the dice pool is sure to increase his effectiveness.

FWIW, I wasn't necessarily sold on the Martial Artist path, and I understand he can still be a professional driver without it being the focus of his entire specialization; the concept remains the same.

Thoughts? Comments? I know this is ultimately a matter of personal preference, but I would appreciate further input.

Also- Feel free to critique my other potential PCs:

Thanks!

I think they're fine starting PCs and any of your revisions will be fine. 3 or 4 sessions later agonizing over the minutiae will seem silly to you. Just make sure you're playing what you want to play.

The best way to learn to make characters (and learn about this game, imo) is through OggDude's character creation app. You can find it here. Well, it is best to learn by playing, but you can get a feel for the game through OggDude's app :P

You have a LOT of Obligation there. How big is your party? Core rules recommend max 20 for a party of just two PCs (EoTE Core pg 40). 5 is the minimum but 10 is the usual starting obligation.

Character looks ok. He will never be acting first in combat though with Cool/Presence and Vigilance/Willpower where they are :P

That's the impression I get- thanks!

I created them in oggdude's, and transferred them to swsheets. It truly is an excellent resource.

Yeah... With the way init works in this system, will this still be a critical issue?

The Obligation is consistent with a pbp I may play in (15 +15 optional for XP/credits).

With high obligation, NPCs might not want to talk to your party... ever. Obligation works as a kind of measure of "party baggage". If your party has high obligation it represents them having a lot of heat on them (or just them causing a lot of drama and problems wherever they go :P ). Narratively it means NPCs steer clear of you until the Obligation is lower.

I did a quick look at the two drois and the "sniper"

Either build for the droids seems to work fine. So go with whichever build that feels better for you.

As for the sniper, Skip, I have advice. I'd drop the 10 Exp spent in Skullduggery and switch that to Ranged Heavy.

IMHO, it looks like you've got a very good grasp on putting together good character concepts.

I'm on my phone at the moment, without access to the oggdude's copy, but I believe Skullduggery and Stealth were the bonus skills I picked for being Human (no XP expenditure involved). I could probably shuffle a few things around... but by the time I acquire a new rifle, I'll hopefully have some earned XP to spend? Thanks!
