Essentials Pack announced

By keltheos, in Runewars Miniatures Game

That deck of TAC cards for Dystopian definitely doesn't come with the book.

I just noticed that the essentials pack includes dice. I missed that at first. I thought for sure they would expect you to just pick up the dice pack separately.

Yeah, that was a surprise. I know I would like a second set even if I'm not getting the essentials. I always like a few extra dice and who knows what future units may require...

I just looked you can buy them individually from them, so again no need for the starter.

Ah, we're talking that starter box they do...gotcha. I got into it before there were starters other than the fleet boxes.

*cough* or examples needing to be made *cough*

Do we knwo they made it because we wanted it or was it already planed? In all other miniature wargames I know you do not need to buy a 2 player starter/faction starter set to get essential stuff to play, you can either buy it or download or copy a page with templates and stuff from the rulebook. So yes a nice move but something to be expected of a product that calls itself a miniature wargame.

I fully expect that this was planned, I just was surprised by it because it means that players that are only interested in elves or uthuk are able to get into this game WITHOUT paying an additional 80-100 dollars. And I'm not saying companies don't listen to fans, I'm saying I think it is rare that they decide to make less money in order to please fans, and this is an example of them making less money because they basically just said, "Hey players! If you were on the fence about buying into our game because you wanted to play elves or Uthuk but those weren't out so you felt like you needed to buy a core DON'T! because not only will your chosen army have it's own big box ::waves hands at shiny pictures or shiny models:: but you can also get all of the necessary components from the core in this little box over here ::waves hands at a slightly less shiny but slightly more surprising essentials pack::"

It just surprised me and I am happy for it. Also I wasn't being glib or sarcastic just trying to be funny.

Like I said. That makes them money. All those who would not of bought the game are now like "Yes! Bring this faster"

Well this is a pleasant surprise.

(awaits the anger when FFG doesn't make a Core completion pack for L5R)

I have writen promptly when FFG have made a move I thought wrong for one or other reason. It is just fair that I just say that this is an excelent move. They say the excellency is to surpass expectations, and this surely does. Well done FFG!

:P

Must not happen much then by your post count. I tease.

FFG makes interesting moves and this is a game where they can afford this move. Mainly due to X-Wing and to a degree, Armada's success

Do they make less money? You pay 84,90 for Latari + Essentials and 99,95 for the starter, whlie at first this seems less money you do get less miniatures and no books, so it might be possible that they get more money this way.And as Lyraeus said this might get more people into the game, and like I said this is standard for miniature wargames while for some it might be more expensive to get the rulebook + essentials + minis individually there are other where it's also cheaper to not buy the starter set, Corvus Belli and Privateer Press have free rules so you buy a faction starter and buy or print the templates/tokens you need which is cheaper, so others are doing the same.

I hope youre kidding. This is more of a one faction game, not like Armada or X-wing.

If I want to play 2v2 with my friends I'm going to have to buy all four factions and a good few duplicate packs for army building. I won't be the only one to buy everything either.

That is me. I am a glutton for drawing people into a game and buying everything will do that. Typically, double of everything.

If you are going to be the pack mule you will need extra sets of things.

You could just get big Waiqar + Daqan armies and play 2vs2.

I'm agree with you. This is not new on miniature games. The 2 good options were 2nd core set with new factions or this one.

The needed to get the humans vs undead to play elves could be the worst of the options.

So, good point for FFG. First miniature game from then which don't think just in profit (X-Wing, Armada, Imperial).

True but I have no self control and want everything. I can't wait for my own faction, the Uthuk, to be teased. Maybe next Monday!

Or you and a buddy split the cost of a core and an essentials pack so that one person gets everything they need to start playing and about 100 points of units for $62 (MSRP). Looking at the price of the expansions, that means that each player will be able to field a 200 point army for just over $100 if they are buying stuff with the normal amount of online discount.

That's extremely cheap for this sort of game.

I'm quite surprised they actually put this out, and at a very reasonable price. Could we please get one of these for Armada or X-Wing?

You pay 84.50 instead on 140

True but jek said he is suprised that they don't want to get all the money and considering that single faction pack + essentials is quite close to the core but has less miniatures, cards and no books i think the difference isn't that big.

But yes buying a core + essentials is a good way to start with a buddy without lending pieces back and forth.
