So are you getting multiple cores?

By keltheos, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Here's a question that I had for myself. Debating getting a second core if I like the game enough. However, the two character models are Uniques. I'll never use them, not sure if they'd sell online...What are you going to do with your extra Uniques if you are planning on more than one core set?

I look at it this way:

My extra Ardus models means I can paint one, have it suck, and get better at painting the next one.

So many times I've painted characters, only to get better at painting and have to strip/repaint them later.

This way, I've got more to play with!

I personally went with three cores but, if I'm honest, that's probably excessive. Two seems just right.

EDIT: Or... I could put Kari and Ardus into a diorama.... ooooohhh...

Title: Love on first sight, replace his axes with roses? :D

For me I haven't pre ordered yet, I might get it or wait for the Uthuk, though I love the undead so I might buy the core sometime.

I will mod mine and use it as a Champion upgrade figure.

Nice. Was thinking something like this as well.

"Ardus and Kari at the Market Fair"

Swap his axes for corn dogs, and her swords for cotton candy.

Considering how much you save on everything else, two unique doubles and a few cards isnt bad at all!

I can def see myself getting a second core soon after I get my first one :D

Well, lol, that Essentials announcement might have people thinking twice.

Multiple cores and having excess uniques is still more cost effective than buying expansion boxes. I plan on painting two Ardus models, one as an upgrade as one as a unit. This way I can permanently mount the one to the special base. The model will look better that way.

True, but then you lack the upgrade cards that come in the expansions. That's where I'm torn. More models = good, missing out on upgrade cards if I'm planning on buying that expansion pack anyway...not so good.

I did some quick comparison and buying all the expansions that would be required to get the same units as in the core box costs more then twice the amount of a core set. That is excluding any heroes, but including an extra carrion lancer and rune golem since those come 2 in a pack.

But as you say, this also wont get you whatever additional upgrades might be found in the separate expansions. But its a heavy cost for a few cards...

It is. Hence, being torn. I can see bulking out units with core sets, but the expansions add new options AND the models. :|

Well, I have my sights set on at least one 4x3 unit of Reanimates, so even if I buy a second core (or buy the Core Waiqar units off of someone) I will still need at least two copies of the Reanimates Expansion Pack. Second core seems like a no-brainer in my case.

I'm going to convert Kari and Ard the seconds into unit champs I think

I'm not suggesting the expansions aren't a good buy, just saying not to worry about multiple heroes if you want lots of guys.

This thread is making my wallet cry...

I'll buy one, see how much I play and then see what comes with the expansions. I kind of got burnt in splitting two Armada Cores with a friend because I still ended up buying a Victory for the upgrade cards and have never had a desire to put three Victories on the table at once. If there isn't a real reason to buy the expansions instead, I'll probably double up on core sets.

This is kind of where I am now. I worry about the print run and how long it'll take to get the core back once the inevitable sellout takes place, but I'm hearing from reliable sources that the expansions SHOULD be on time next month so not too long to wait.

I'm thinking about setting a "If the last Runewars thing I bought isn't painted, don't buy more Runewars stuff" rule. Looking at the mostly unpainted BattleTech starter set and half painted Warhammer Fantasy Battles core set stuff I've had sitting in my garage since the late 90s, I think that might keep me from ever getting more than one core. If I do actually follow through on painting it should take me until the first expansions hit to do so.

Oh, I hear that. I have soooooo many models to paint. I'm even on a FB group where we do a quarterly 'get your stuff painted' pledge and post for mutual support. I can see getting these done pretty fast, but yeah, won't be throwing C-notes at it until I'm sure I'm in for the haul.

That's all I've been doing this past weekend, painting those dang minis.

I split 2 cores with my buddy. I don't think we would have done so if we hadn't gotten them free at adepticon, but we're glad for the extra figs.

As for the extra unique fig, we're each painting it for the other it in their own style. We'll still have two of the same unique figure, but it's fun to have figs painted by your friends. I've got a whole necromunda project going where each of my gaming club friends paints one of my gangs or a set of characters in their own style and I build terrain for them in exchange.

As for gameplay with the unique fig(s) I think it's likely that amongst ourselves we'll allow one unique as their own unit and one as a unit upgrade.

I'm still splitting my core with someone and we both purchased it. With the announcement today and the fact that we cannot split factions, I am glad to be sticking with the undead instead of both factions from the core set. Depending on how the Uthuk Y’llan announcement goes, I might not even need to buy those I guess? I'm assuming there will be continued updates for each faction as the game develops more?

I am not worried about more models from 2 cores. Just means more units for a bigger battles
