Trays and basing Q

By keltheos, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Is there any reason you wouldn't glue in your single-model to a tray models? Like the hero rocks (not the heroes) and the carrion rider/golem? I can see not gluing in heroes since they can drop into units, but the hero base and the big guys...why would you not?

I have found no compelling reason NOT to permanently attach the golem and rider to their trays.

Because the narrower model at the top can wobble and damage the smaller model in transport. You also could never use siege as part of a formation.

Why not? The base isn't changing on the tray, right? will there be two tray wide trays where the siege would have to slot in some other way?

I'm not gluing the trays together, just the golem/carrion rider/hero platform into the tray.

I don't think that worm is fitting into an infantry tray. Not without some radical cosmetic surgery.

Or the golem.

Siege trays drop into the formation as a regular tray would, they don't fit into the infantry tray itself. :D

There will never be a time when your large unit is not set in a single tray, by itself.

Glue the **** thing down.

...2019..."Introducing the MEGATRAY, now your siege units can be fielded in a double-sized tray for our 3x9 400 point games!!!" ;)

Easier time with what models are based. Let's say you want to use the new Elf Siege and human siege and want to maintain the same basing

Glue them down...I magnetized my first Slurms and regret it...now my next two Slurms are glues into play in the tray and the tray is WAY EASIER to magnetize...

Just base them all the same? :D

Yup and then you have much wider models taking up more space. It depends on the models

I'm not sure we're talking the same thing. I thought you meant how you decorated your trays.

Yes be now you have a wide flat surface where as with a normal base you could turn it sideways and slide it into foam like a CD

You still have to store the model.

Where are you storing it that the margins are so tight it can't accomodate an extra inch or so laterally?

Having my hands on this game, I really feel like a lot of people are way overthinking storage.

I'm even thinking if I do go and magnetize the guys, just do the same for the trays and a case I drop them into. Did it with my Shadows of Brimstone models, could do it here easily. And could do the same with them in the trays and just magnetize the trays.

Storing the model is FAR easier when you are not taking up 2" or so wider of an area. Means you have more room and allows a player to set up less bases.

Some of us dont have the capacity to have 6-10 models set up like that... Especially since I am a collector... I must have them all!

It's not 2" though, it's *maybe* 1".

I mean, it's a matter of preference, but having the game in hand right now, I can say that I will be permanently affixing all my siege sized units to their trays.

I put all my figs together last night and couldn't figure out why I wouldn't glue them in. Just makes it easier overall. I get what you're saying now, but the extra distance needed for display/storage on the tray isn't a big factor for me.

These are not solid plastic bases right? They are Chinese made so cheap on material use so hollow near the edges right?

If so I can magnetize the crud out of these and have a foam tray dedicated to just stack them flat

It's got to be wider than that. I mean flat not sideways

Someone posted his magnetizing steps in another thread. The parts used and everything. It should be easy enough with/without his tutorial.

Do you have a link?

Jek's post.

The link to the discs at the top is broken, but he posts an ebay link to the same item further down the thread.
