Alchemical Problems OCC

By TheShard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Sorry guys! I traveled to Dallas for work this past weekend and was mostly offline after my last big post and I just now returned home I'll be on and off all day long and looking to add two posts but I love the jawa gmpc as well and this is a fun crew so I think you'll fit in perfectly. By the way I love Astrid's combat abilities and I'll be happy to help train her. Two ranks in ranged (light ) with a corellian light blaster pistol and a custom grip will add two Blues to the two yellows.and green for your natural ability will make an impressive attack

Please Pardon speech to text typos and punctuation

Thanks! She does alright, and I may well take you up on your offer at some point.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, and I do enjoy participating in the battle sequences... but I don't plan on trying to turn Astrid into an awe-inspiring warrior like Yorik. As an out-of-career skill (my single proficiency rank was one of my selections for being human), a second rank in ranged (light) would cost 15xp- not a prohibitive amount, if I decided to invest in that direction- but nothing to sneeze at, if I wanted to pursue other paths.

Also, as a young woman working remote areas in the Outer Rim, she likes the intimidation factor of the lancer (no stun setting), as well as the range it offers.

So I'm trying to see if I can scout any ways we can get a second pair of optical sensors on this problem. We got limited cam sight, until we get to security booth.

Just a bunch but that security booth is going to have a surprise.

Also I think once the death mooks are toast we'll meet a bigger problem, so while I agree we should finish.it, I think we should make sure we will be in a good position for what'll come afterwards.

You and Yorrik are great examples of how to play a combat focused character without missing the rp of it all.

I totally have a sense of his personality, a bit innocent despite the horrors of the civil war, and an all around stand up guy, a bit like drax from guardians... Not sly at all. Love it!!

I just did session using discord, and it's the first time doing this over voice.

I think it's really interesting how pbp really brings out the rp element more thoroughly. However I do like the instant gratification and momentum that can be built playing live.

So I got to thinking discord also is basically glorified chat with voice. So one could keep the live element, but with the editing and forethought that goes with writing posts. In fact there is a dice roller on these boards with a chat feature.

Would anyone be interested in getting together to run a session live sometime? It might be hard to get everyone at the same time, but I thought it might be fun to doait once in a while as a special event!!

I'm on Discord and use it with my local Gaming Group. I've actually never used the voice feature which is extremely ironic when you get to know more about me. :-)

I'm but open to it but may still have to type depending on the time of our session. :-)

No I'm totally suggesting type!!

Just fancy live typing!!

I'm game, but it would probably require planning and scheduling in advance.

This pbp is my first group that hasn't involved sitting around a physical table, rolling actual dice, so I will need to familiarize myself with whatever apps are chosen.

Ultimately, April is the one who will need to sign-off on this.

Yeah it would probably be a nightmare to schedule, just an idea I had kicking around.

So how does it compare for you, pbp vs tabletop?

Also does worra have a timetable for returning?

Well... It is fun to play again! I'm also excited about playing in the Star Wars universe for the first time (my previous experience was almost exclusively AD&D + 2nd ed).

The main thing is this (and I'm sure this applies to many, here): Generally, I have time to play for a few minutes at a time, throughout the day; dedicating a sizable chunk of time, likely over the weekend, is less of an option for me.

Apart from the favorable logistics, which have aided in my reentry into the gaming community, I also very much like what FFG has done with the game; the very system itself provides an experience superior to what I had become accustomed to.

Okay, to answer your question... for me personally, at this point in my life, I think I actually prefer the pbp approach. I like that I am basically always in the middle of a session, as opposed to cramming hours of action in, with a subsequent lapse of a week (or weeks) before the next one. I also think the text-based game allows for better role-playing, and better thought-out actions (Astrid's stun-gun lapse notwithstanding- that was player error).

Just now, TheShard said:

I haven't heard anything further, so I fear Worra may not be returning.

That Doctor's return was also quite brief.

Yes it was so let's put the two slots up for grabs?

Any reason not too?

I don't see why not? The campaign did initially start with a party of six.

I figure if we keep up recruitment, it balances with whatever natural attrition a pbp has.

This is Awesome! @April

Not being an artist myself, I selected a suitable image from the plethora available online. After playing the character for a while, I still think it's a reasonable facsimile, even the attire. The body positioning and "resting ***** face" is apt, but you could add a bit of a smirk if it would be more appropriate. Should you wish to attempt the Mountaineer Armor she usually wears for adventuring, here's some fluff for it (also additional details accidentally included in the hidden contents):

Another offering from the utilitarians at the Ayelixe/ Krongbing Textiles Corporation, the Mountaineer is a suit of light, flexible armor designed to assist the wearer in climbing and navigating mountainous terrain. Made from a thick, tear-resistant textile with excellent thermal-retention qualities and interwoven with a patented foil-fiber armor weave, Mountaineer armor provides good protection from impacts, abrasions, and falls. In addition to the armor weave, the suit is reinforced at the shoulders, knees, and elbows with impact-absorbing polymer pads and is equipped with an integral climbing and support harness. The palms of the gloves and soles of the light, flexible boots are coated in Friction Grip, a material produced by A/KT that adheres to even the smoothest surface. The entire suit consists of the one-piece jumpsuit, gloves, boots, and a helmet. Accessories like oxygen tanks for high-altitude climbing can be added for a nominal fee, and all attachments for such accessories are already integrated into the armor.

Mountaineer armor grants the wearer 2 blue dice to all Athletics skill checks made to climb or rappel.

Honestly, inclusion of the armor (or not) can be at your discretion.

She should have a messenger style, nerf-hide bag slung across her body, with her lancer (+scope!?) on her other hip, Solo style.

If there is room, SPY-D would love to be included.

And... if you were planning on doing stick figures, and this is way too much detail... it will still be better than anything I could manage.

Thanks!

No. It's oddly empty...

( Okay guys I'm going to draw the party let me know how your character should look and which npc's you would like to see )

I'm going to do this here so as not to over clutter the ic thread.

So there are the couple of drawing ideas I did, but basically he's got a head wrap covering janky and cobbled together electronics where a chunk of his skull/brain would be. The tech trails down his neck to a slicing port he can jack into.

He is a little rough looking, burn and shrapnel scars on his face and body. Gaunt features and high check bones, snagle tooth teeth and a large bird like nose define his face. He has large periwinkle eyes.

He is blue as omwati are, with pealescent redish-gold "hair". The scars darken it to almost indigo in places. Which is more like down or small feathers. Its patchy, because of the scar tissue and oaks out between the folds of his head wrap. He has patchy facial feathers too.

One arm is originally a replicant arm (notably non-omwati), however it's been rebuilt with servos and lifting gears parts from a labor droid. It now has an extra elbow and hangs down to his knee longer than his natural arm. Its skinny, industrial and ramshackle looking. His other hand has the pinky and ring finger replaced with droid parts. His opposite foot is also cybernetic, beginning with a ball joint instead of an ankle. He makes liberal use of bandage like wraps, head, arm, legs etc.

I'll edit this with some clothing examples shortly.

I like the replica hand, that no longer looks like a replacement arm, my version would be more extreme as it would like even more industrial. I'm thinking with awkward looking joints. c41c09b2a890e4f5f5c171582c3c35d7.jpg 96bf07326d143f6c6713af7e9801dfc7.jpg

The above 4 pictures are probably closest to the "style" he would wear in a mission setting. Basically a hooded cloak that features hidden electronic countermeasures. And under it a patched together shadow suit. 4eb658f5bcf904a94c688ceabbd7f316.png c01bec20573c156ad3239d431d86cef0.jpg

I like the look of the cybernetics on these two, but I'd push it even more simple and industrial but just as cobbled together looking.

The above style of layered clothing is what I'm going for, part rags, part hi tech gear.

Even though it's a girls face below, I imagine it looking like this but longer gaunter and more aged/weathered. A more prominent hooked nose and pointy chin.

I always thought of astrid looking a lot like kira from ds9 don't know why, this ain't that far off.

Also there's Aye, always hovering near Zyi.

One side has a cluster of cameras and sensors the other side a cluster of communications and signal detection antennas. A large wide angle camera "eye" dominates the spheres face. A hover pad is indented in the bottom and the back of the chassis with four mini thrusters to control right back, right forward, left back, left forward movement.

Sections of the chassis fold out as various legs so Aye can scuttle around or attack with when it's not hovering around. spherical_droid_by_myburningeyes-d5aswof Maintenancedroid.JPG Screen_Shot_2011-12-10_at_11.04.59_PM.pn SphereBotPreview_1.jpgb9fa63af-b7ab-4d7d

My group plays on Friday nights via Google Hangouts for about 5 or 6 years. Sadly Google dropped the dice rolling apps but there

are online rollers but I prefer physical dice. I run a Star Wars game every other week for my group. It would be fun to play this game though hangouts.

As stated the scheduling would be difficult but i can see doing a session once a month to supplement the pbp.

I like the cybernetics of the one without scars, and sorts the face but it's too nice looking, the last one captures the feel better but could be even more lopsided and misshapen, more scarring etc.

Aye it's pretty close to what I'm thinking, but now that he has legs I'd move things around a bit to accommodate them.

Worra just messaged me, is currently trying to catch up on the thread, and would like to jump back in.

Good!! I liked his contributions to the story! Let's get a hard date, and have him message April so she can coordinate the narrative with his return.

Me too! I sent @aclarkbr90 a brief synopsis of events, so hopefully soon.

Got an email too so it looks good!
