Red Villains

By Amanal, in Star Wars: Destiny

Tardy, slow pokes. Probably scared of coming out and playing with the new Heroes or are you all just giving in to the inevitable? We'll all be playing the Emperor and you'll stay in folders, storage boxes or traded to nothingness?

Come on you guys, come out and play.

If you have any spare FN-2199's I'll be happy to take them off your hands. No cartage fee or anything!

Krennic and Bala-Tik will be a thing, though maybe not a great one. So will Vader and Nines. And then there's all the support mono-red is getting for troopers and pilots, enough even that I'd guess mono-red will be the most popular budget deck moving into the next meta.

death troopers and endless ranks seem strong, 10hp trooper with lot of damage coming back from the dead is a thing, toss in training and its all gravy

I've been seeing a lot more people playing Phasma recently, I think people have realized that Guardian is just that **** good. She's not a particularly 'sexy' choice, but she's not bad.

Troopers have always been played, and they get a lot of support in SoR. People are going to try and build Death Trooper lists.

Grievous was let down by the fact that there was very little support for melee outside of Blue. Weapons are a bit more balanced between the two types now, so I think he'll see a little more play. I do want to try the eAnakin/Grievous murder train to see whether it works.

Krennic is definitely going to be a centre piece dude, though I'm not convinced he's workable because of the disconnect between his ability and his dice. But people will definitely give it a try anyway.

TR-8R is going to see a LOT of play, I think. I'm not sure he's worth seeing that much play, but people will be using him a lot. He's got a very flashy ability and a budget price point.

There's definitely some villain Red cards worth splashing for, now. Though there's still a lack of synergy between some of their options - e.g. great disrupt cards but a general lack of disrupt in colour.

Not sure what your take on the new villain reds are but they are going to see a LOT more play than their Hero counterparts

I think that any one of the new 4 red villains (Death trooper, Krennic, Nines & Pilot) will see more play than any of the new hero Reds.

Triple Death trooper seems to be popular (though I'm unsure of its viability with no base resource generation), Krennic looks slid but not amazing, but has options, nines is so cost efficient and his ability makes him well worth testing and the tie pilot has a real game impacting ability that can't be ignored.

On the hero side though, Baze appears to be a slightly lesser version of Poe, but the jury is still out, Mon Mothma is a more expensive but more focused version of Akbar but her cost will keep her from seeing too much play, the commando sits in an awkward point cost for hero's and just doesn't have a home right now and Snap seems like he has amazing potential but is again another support character that doesn't have a heavy hitter to pair him with.

Red Awakenings hero's got a lot of extra cards to boost their playability, we can only hope the next set might help the poor red heroes of SoR

I don't think there was ever any debate or confusion as to guardian's utility, just a general lack of options. The number of viable characters at Phasma's disposal will have effectively doubled with SoR's release. I do have my doubts as to whether the riot baton will make Grievous any more viable than he was before, but at least having blue melee abilities now (Makashi Training) means that Sith Holocron won't be a complete waste on him.

Dice disruption / control might not be red's bailiwick, but I'd say it synergizes with itself better than any other color. 2x FO Trooper + 2x TIE Pilot might actually have more long term traction than 3x Death Trooper, even if the latter is a bit flashier.

In Baze's defense, he does have 3 damage faces. That's not remotely insignificant when making comparisons.

That'll teach me!! I was making a rather light comment on the article for Red Villians being 4 days late. Following the 1 each week on a Friday schedule we had for the yellows and red heroes. :D

But hey, any discussion is good discussion so keep up the good work my friends.

Everyone but the pilot had been spoiled already, so there probably wasn't much point.

Well if you look around for it all you could find a spoiler for every card in the set, we did open a few hundred or maybe a few thousands of boxes not long ago.

However, I enjoy their commentary. I also enjoy the search for the error in said commentary to make sure you are paying attention. It's kinda like "Where's the Wookie" but without the Wookie.

And easier. :D

I've been enjoying a Baze/Maz deck on tts. Baze isn't brilliant , but van hit loke a freight train, even with just one upgrade.

Really enjoying him.

I'm really enjoying E Krennic/jabba

Lots of control options with damage potential for those swarm builds. went up against Palp with limited cards still on tts and it was pretty viable. Lost by only 1 turn. Whether it's discarding, disruption, imperial inspection (a great card) or damage they put out the hurt with a ton of HP between the two.

I'm interested in 2x Death Troopers and Unkar Plutt as a fatigue deck. Unkar brings yellow utility cards and some economy to the table, to give the Death Troopers an edge. He also plays well with Imperial Inspection. The deck grinds down your opponent's economy while strengthening your own, allowing you to leverage high cost upgrades and Endless Ranks late game.

Or 2 X Trooper, 1 X Tie Pilot, 1 X Nightsister to get some Blue?? (and because the sisters are just COOL!!)

I'm actually more interested in a 2 x trooper, Guavian Enforcer & Tie Pilot list. Access to all the good red and yellow weapons and upgrades, good damage output from all the characters and the Tie Pilots ability just seems really powerful. Squad Tactics with Tactical Mastery feels a bit gross with this team.

Also seems like the perfect list to get the most out of wingman as well.

I am playing a EPhasma, First order trooper, guarvian enforcer (sp?) and it rocks..

I've just constructed an as of yet untested deck with this character build, calling it my 'fast and shooty' deck. There aren't any supports in this just lots of ranged damage upgrades none of which cost more than 2 resources. Also including endless ranks. Worried about the number of blanks this set up is likely to roll.

That's why you sub in a sister for one of the 8 point characters and play Power of the Dark Side. Nowhere to Run can also be viable.

The tie pilots ability doesn't affect his die, correct? It doesn't say so on the card. It just says other dice.

Trouble with this is who do I take out? Guavian means I can't have any yellow and the tie fighter is there to protect all the ranged damage I'm hoping to roll.
