My latest Talisman game

By RedSimon2, in Talisman

I am missing such a thread where you ramble about your latest game.

Today I played base game + Reaper but without Grim Reaper (German edition of Dungeon still not available). 6 player game.

I started with the Monk and quickly got two additional points of strength (slaying a Dragon and two animals). Then I got stupid and boasted about going to the middle region soon. That was a mistake, as the effing Sage used the Rod of Ruin against me because of this, stole my two strength points. Then I stumbled upon the Poltergeist and couldn't get rid of it until near the end where I got killed and got the thief. But it was already to late. A wizard (thank god not the Sage) got the Warhorse and charged to the inner region, winning the game. Sage and Wizard ruled the game, though a Minstrel player was also doing well, with multiple objects.

I played for the first time without Reaper because I didn't like how he usually killed to much characters and lengthened the game. However, I now see this is still better, as with him you have a secret weapon against early game-rulers.

Hi Redsimon,

Some people are rambling about their latest game here .

They are also posting their statistics there.

Maybe that you can take a look there? happy.gif

Greetings,

Velhart

Thank you, though it's not entirely the same, as I'm talking about whole games, not just characters. Anyway, I certainly learned not to appear too strong to not become a target.

Ok, played my first game with the dungeon today, the day after it arrived.

It was really fun. 3 player game, other players had merchant and knight, I had the... swashbuckler! My first game with this expansion and I could try out a character from this expansion. happy.gif We used the optional rule of requiring less trophy points for gaining strength and craft (5 instead of 7)

I had a start where I almost died, but then recovered, drew the wand and quickly gained strength and craft. It really helped that I could draw 2 cards on fields (3 when prophesy was drawn ). After a while they took the wand from me, but I still ruled.

Then the crone toadified both other characters on the same space (huge pile of items, gold and followers). The knight had always bad luck when drawing cards even before and never recovered throughout the game. But the merchant took all his followers, had the wand and became really dangerous. He charged to the crown, but I had transference stored from when I had the wand and used it, probably too early (plain of peril). I was afraid I would lose the spell.

I reached the crown first, but had to battle 5 pit fiends which took 5 turns. I think that was wrong, as I think you have to battle them in the same turn and not one per turn (I had enough strength to make it auto-win).

The knight died shortly after I reached the crown and the player was out of the game.

The merchant followed me quickly, but in the battles I was luckier. I defeated him and because it was close for me (had 3 lives, he had 5) I stripped him of his objects while he tried to kill me quickly, not using his special ability. He was killed while I still had 2 or 3 lives.

We barely touched the dugeon. We only travelled to the first two rows and then not always intentional, and quickly fled. But the nice dark denizens cards were both drawn, and brought dungeon fun to the main board, including the holy avenger for the merchant which could not fight me the whole game even though I was turned evil by mystic. When the merchant finally encountered me again at the crown the mystic had made me good again and the avenger was useless against me.

Anyway, a quick fun game. cool.gif

EDIT:

Lessons learned:

In the previous game (report above this one) I learned not to boast, as that backfires quickly in a PvP game like Talisman.

However, it is also important never to forget special rules (several times I forgot the rule that Swashbuckler can do second turn after winning a battle) and cards (several times I forgot my armour and riding horse), which I learned this game.

EDIT2:

The Reaper killed nobody and only took one point of life from me and noone else. But at least he kept us busy.

EDIT3:

I also learned that high craft is not that useful for a character without psychic combat ability. It sucks not being able to employ it in PvP (my swashbuckler had acquired more craft then strength).
