Assault Carrier, Docking Clamps, TIE Fighters

By tracker7, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Got asked about the Fighter mix possible with Docking Clamps tonight. Can an Assault Carrier carry a mix of TIE Fighters, /FO, and /SF? The text for Docking Clamps reads "You may dock up to 4 TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptors, TIE Bombers, or TIE Advanced to this ship. All these ships must be of the same type." Per the rules update document, Youngster's ability affects Fighters, /FO Fighters, and /SF Fighters.

Does the explanation on Youngster create a precedent for considering the three Fighter types as equal for the purposes of Docking Clamps? Personally, I'd be fine with it; the person asking is planning a team Epic game at GenCon, though, and wants wider opinions.

Based on the Youngster precedent; I think you could use TIE/fo or TIE/sf, as long as it's four of the same. A TIE/fo Fighter is a TIE Fighter, but a TIE Fighter is not at TIE/fo.

You should be able to dock TIE/fo OR TIE/sf but you would not be able to mix and match the various types of TIE Fighters from the game. All may be "TIE Fighters" but that's not all of their type description so you have to match the model as well.
