By Force Majeure, in X-Wing

lol, at first I wonder how did you get a BB=8 on a B-wing. Yeah the T-70 is so dirty it killed the X-wing and the B-wing in one final swoop. The mouse would be so proud.:P

Ah, if only this game had been called TIE Fighter.

or GUNBOAT.

Trench Run Red Boys are still my go to XXX list. Luke, Wedge and Biggs forever.

Yes!

I've won my last two tournaments with nothing but T-65s. My T-65 build is currently 28-5. In tournaments, they are 9-1. I love my X-Wings.

Have you tried him with Snap Shot and R3-A2 yet? Now that's dirty. Dishing out 2 stress, one before they get to use their action, and taking none back just feels so right.

Yeah, but that's also relatively avoidable. The SoT version just dials in a 3-straight every turn, using BB-8 to reposition before changing it to any other speed-3 maneuver and boosting as needed.

And then, when they finally think they've figured you out, you do a 1-straight and make them feel foolish because they forgot that was also a thing you could do.

For anything PS7 or lower, he's a pre-nerf Phantom with Tallon Rolls.

Biggs and the occasional Wes, Wedge, or Tarn are already viable.

They're on the whole more viable than B-Wings since the introduction of Integrated Astromech.

What's a B-wing?

It's like the rebel version of a gunboat... oh nvm, no one knows what that is.

Lots of people know what it is. They just don't get any ?

What does someone's sex life have to do with playing with plastic space ships?

wait, never mind...

I will neither confirm or deny that I may or may not own 6 of said spaceship in question... (because it's one of my favorite ships)

Refined to be slightly more competitive, as I'll be taking it to a store championship the week of the anniversary. :)

Han Solo
Expertise
C3PO
Gunner
Millennium Falcon (Evade Version)
Engine Upgrade

Luke Skywalker
Lone Wolf
R2-D2
Vectored Thrusters

I tried Nien Numb with Stay On Target, BB8, Pattern Analyzer and IA as @PhantomFO suggested. People, he's the real deal.

Go Rogues !

- Luke Skywalker with R5-P9, Expertise, Integrated
- Wedge with BB-8, PtL and Integrated
- Wes with R7, Adaptability and Integrated.

It's the month of May. Happy 40th Anniversary, Star Wars!! Time to bring my X-wings to bear.

Game night tonight.

I only own two T-65s so I'm going to bring Luke, Wedge, & Jess.

That's the rub for Nien Nunb, though: a whole heck of a lot of the meta is PS7 or higher (Rey, Han, Jake, Dash, Miranda, Poe, Corran, RAC, Inquisitor, Quickdraw, Backdraft, Omega Leader, Fenn, Teroch, Ketsu, Bossk, Dengar). Nien needs that EPT for either SoT, SS, or PtL to really get use out of it, but that locks him at PS7.

He reminds me a lot of Hera (piloting the VCX): an awesome ability that would be super fun and pretty potent if their innate PS was 9, but at 7 it means you're vulnerable to greatly reduced usefulness depending on the opponent's PS.

Nien can do a hell of a lot of amazing, awesome things depending on how you upgrade him. He's as versatile as a Swiss Army Knife. The problem, though, is that in X-Wing you can't switch between various tools within the knife, as you have to lock in to one tool and then use it for all of your games. And this means you end up either trying to scoop up half the meta with fork or trying to stab half the meta with a spoon. So, instead, people just use sporks: ships/builds that may not be as impressive in those "good matchups" for a spoon or fork, but that can perform pretty reliably against a broad range of enemy builds. Parattani is a great spork: it doesn't have any great match-ups, but it doesn't really have any bad match-ups either, it can pretty reasonably compete against everything.

This need to specialize keeps (and will always keep) ships like Nien or any other "tool-box" ships (e.g. TIE/Ds, VI Ten Numb with Autoblaster, etc.) generally out of the meta, since you can't gamble with 30+ points on a ship that 'sometimes' works at its full potential, even if it is an awesome thing of beauty of that full potential. It's the same reason Gunner+Vader Decis and StressHogs didn't rise to the top of the Spring 2016 meta back when Palp Aces were winning about half of the events: even though they were fantastic against those Palp Ace lists, they generally underperformed against Torp Scouts. So you could take Gunner+Vader RAC and maybe ruin the day of one or two Palp Ace players, but you'd rack up losses against Torp Scouts and Quad TLTs and such and would be very unlikely to win the event, barring some eerie luck on pairings. The top of the competitive meta is all about consistent performance, and rarely has room for silver bullets or ships that work really well as specialized fighters against some things but are merely mediocre against others.

Also the same with the Rebel Sabine pilots. After everything with the TIE Phantom, you'll never see a ship with that level of maneuverability combined with a top-level pilot skill. Duchess is probably closest, but he's limited by both stress and the ability to only execute an optional boost.

I played 3 games last night and lost two of them.

Me: Wedge+PTL+BB8+IA, Luke+Predator+R2D2+Vectored Thrusters, Jess+Pattern Analyzer+Targeting Astro+IA

I flew against a RAC/Quickdraw build. QD was a terrifying opponent the way it was put together: Baffles, Homing Missiles w/chips, Title, Opportunist--I can't remember it all, but she kept baffling herself to trigger her ability. All in all 25 dice were thrown, 5 at a time, mostly Range 1, at Jess before she finally succumbed. RAC had Hotshot CoP, Ops Spec and Expose.

The other opponent I lost to had Countdown, Pure Sabaac, Wampa, and Whisper. A nice little TIE salad that took me down fairly quickly thanks to good blocks and self bumping that worked against me.

My only win for the night was against Airen Cracken, Corran Horn & Biggs. It's easy to forget Airen's ability to toss free actions to his buddies until he does it and it puts you in a tight spot. He pulled his weight last night for the other guy, that's for sure.

For me, Jess was my MVP, dodging punches and fighting solidly. I wasn't able to pull off the Wedge BB8/PTL combo to full effect more than once in all my games. Luke was strong, but he didn't really get to shine.

If anything, I felt there was a lack of a support ship that could have helped with damage or stress mitigation. Bombs would have been handy too.

LOL I am flying this list sans gunner. I have HotCop in place and TJ instead of EU. Flichettes on Luke to prevent red maneuvers from anything not a defender or left-turning JM 5000.

LOVE this list. Loads of fun to fly if you enjoy the tactical and strategic part of positioning.

I should try this. I've always had good luck with the Falcon & this is so themed!

I faced Thane and two Red Squadron Vets and Poe, Nien, and Jess at a tournament Saturday. Also played a jank Luke, Poe, and Airen Cracken list with my brother a couple times recently. Good times, all!
