Eilif's Runewars games. Round 2.

By eilif, in Runewars Miniatures Game

EDIT 5/1 :

Decided to post my second AAR as a continuation of this post rather than starting a new topic. Second game 5 posts down.

Hello all,

Relative newbie to the forum, but Runewars has got me here and I'll defnintely be checking in from time to time to get info on this game "from the source".

At Adepticon my buddy and I recieved copies of Runewars in our swag bag. Despite not being "big-name-company" kind of gamers we decided to give it a go at last weeks meeting. It's not a roll-by-roll report, but I go quickly through the whole course of the game and insert my thoughts and observations on the various aspects of the rules and gameplay as they came up for us.

Beware though, we violated our own club's painted-only ideals, so while there are plenty of picures, they are all of drab, grey hordes.
Oh, the Horror....

Despite the the shame of unpainted minis, we found the game to be quite enjoyable and are planning to invest in additional units as they come out. We split the figs by faction, so we now each have a double portion of our chosen army. Got alot of spearmen to paint now...

Awesome news, thanks for the review! Glad to hear that the swag bag was able to entice you and your friend.

Nice review.

yeah putting the core set for free in the swag bags was a pure genius move on FFGs part. couple thousand msrp for the boxes, couple thousand to air fright probably, and tons of hype and new players generated.

Thanks Folks,

Glad you enjoyed it.

Frogtrigger,

No doubt it was the freebie that did it. I was satisfied with my fantasy wargaming triumvirate of Song of Blades, Dragon Rampant and Kings of War, but I figured I'd at least give the game a shot since I already had it. The gameplay was what sold me, but I wouldn't have played it if it hadn't been put in my hands.

We had our second game last Thursday. We almost doubled our points to 180.

A good time was had. We found that 3x6 (the standard size table) can be a bit problematic when you choose the corner deployement card. Also i learned a valuable lesson in deploying your forces based on initiative. Oops.

As always, a couple of teasers to entice you to visit...

The game continues to impress me. For the first time ever I'm contemplating heading to an FLGS for open play this week. It's been a long time since I played a wargame against random strangers. Should be an experience...

Stay tuned, I've got 2 posts in the works covering a gallery of my finished Daqan (at the battle they were not quite done), and some terrain I've been building to replace the cardboard templates in the boxed set. Should be up later this week and/or early next week.

Sounds like a blast! Thanks for the updates.

A quick note though, I don't think Ardus would have been able to get away at the end there. I believe you can only disengage from multiple units if they have the same contact edge.

Thanks For the rules correction, I'll look into it. We weren't totally confident on all aspects of disengaging.
