Lots of rules clarifications needed: Respected Citizen

By acdc3, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi folks,

Our group has played through the "Respected Citizen" quest in Shadows of Nerekhall. We got our rears handed to us (4 person group, did 2 points of damage to him). We've been finding that FF doesn't write things as clearly as we might like and lots of rules questions arose.

  1. Can Bertram move through monsters? The rules talk about him not being able to move onto a tile of a monster and about the extra cost of moving through heroes. But not about moving through monsters.
  2. Can an ironbound protect Bertam? If so, it seems you pretty much need to kill them first (if the overlord uses them).
  3. What can you do when attacking with one's hands? Can you take advantage of weapon's surges? What if dual wielding?

Thanks,

1 1a (If he's treated as a monster, yes.)

2 (I don't think so, but it's not ridiculous if they can)

3 (no)

About 3:

Of course no 'weapon' surge abilities, but it should be possible to recover 1 fatigue through a surge when attacking unarmed, right?

About the second question, I asked FFG Customer service about this. This is their answer:

"No, Ironbound cannot use Protect to become the target of an attack targeting Bertram."

Yes, I believe one can use a surge on a bare-hand attack to recover fatigue.

That's weird, because Protect specifically targets figures, not monsters, but okay I guess. I've seen OL win this quest versus One Fist without Ironbound as well as lose it using them versus "normal" party.

The reason why I wrote customer service was because of the unclear quest rule: "...he is immune to all other game effects". So in that respect, the Ironbound tank-ability is considered a game effect.

Yeah, that kinda makes sense.
