Krennic and Lockdown

By Peacelord, in Star Wars: Destiny

Can we resolve Lockdown if we only have Krennic in play but he has his other Deathtrooper die? Checked rules under spotting, dice and characters and couldn't see a ruling saying spotting required both card and die. I'm inclined to say no, but I'm no rules lawyer....anyone else know?

For reference (please always put card text when asking for rules).
Lockdown
Villain . Command . Common .
Event. Cost: 0.

Ambush .

Spot two Red characters to take control of the battlefield.

Spot two Red characters implies you need 2 red characters (alive), that mean the cards.

Deathtrooper is only a character die, not a character card when rolled with Krennic.

So, no. You can't.

From Rules (bold text for emphasis)

SPOTTING
Some cards require a player to spot a specific game element
in order to use its ability. To spot an element, a player must
have that element in play. Most cards just require a player to
spot a character of a specific color.
Example: Use the Force (Awk 149) says “Spot a Blue character
to turn a die to any side” You must have an undefeated Blue
character on your team, or the card does nothing.
• A player cannot spot their opponents’ characters or cards,
unless the card explicitly says so.
• If a player is not able to spot the required element, then
the card does nothing.

Cheers! Super helpful answer :)

Hello everybody,

Dummy question spotted, but what is the purpose of "Lockdown" ?

SWD04_63.jpg

I mean, when you capture a battlefield, you can activate the capture ability but when you use Lockdown , you simply take control of it (by putting it in your play area) without benefiting from its effect. So... ...oh ****, I just got it : if your opponent did just capture the battlefield, you can, with this card, retake it from him, having the advantage of playing first the next round...am I right ?

Thanks for your answers.

Would also prevent cards like High Ground, Dug In and Defensive Positions.

There are a number of Red cards that can only be played when you control the Battlefield, such as Defensive Position, Dug In, Occupation and We Have Them Now. If you are playing against a quicker deck that usually claims the Battlefield first, this card will help you to take it after they claim and play out your cards at your lesiure. Plus, you can go first next round.
