I saw on the master list that Gungans are in Nexus of Power. What are the stats for them? I'm very curious.
Gungans
221 223
WT 10 + Brawn
ST 10 + Willpower
100 starting xp
Amphibious and one free rank of athletics.
Yep. They are surprisingly not bad. I've been meaning to build a character based on some of StuCunningham's badass Gungan art but the right opportunity hasn't presented itself.
Darth Jar Jar time!
Presence 3 for a species that actively avoid contact with other species doesn't sit well with me. If anything I think their willpower should have been the higher score.
Of course they are also a culture of hunters with base cunning and agility. They are kind of a hard species to pin down. To make matters worse, Jar-jar was far from a typical Gungan and was generally considered a bit of an oddity. So how do you design them? Do you make the Jar-jar fans happy and make them good diplomats or err on the side of realism. My guess is they figured there would be two types of people who wanted to play Gungans, people who wanted to play Jar-jar and people who wanted to prove that you could be an awesome Gungan despite Jar-jar's bad reputation. For both of those player types, modeling the Gungans off of Jar-jar and giving them high Presence likely made the most sense.
Nobody want to play gungans, there are no gungans... No gungans... *waves hand* What's a gungan?
Edited by TheShardPresence is described as force of personality, natural charisma, natural leadership potential, etc. This seems to describe what we see of Boss Nass and Tarpals - natural leaders, charismatic, diplomatic. Presence need not apply on a galactic scale, necessarily, as Gungans were still divided into separate cities/communities, so diplomatic relations was still necessary even internally. Even Jar Jar served as an ambassador, somehow; the Bardottans seemed to like him, at least.
Jar Jar left such a bad taste in viewer's mouths that it's easy to forget he was banished by his own people. Even other Gungans were tired of dealing with him.
I don't badmouth Jar-jar after the most recent Aftermath novel. That was some sad stuff right there.
I do think Gungans get a bad rap because of Jar Jar. I played a lot of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga and, while my favorite faction was the Empire and Clones, whenever I saw Gungans across the map I knew I had to get rid of them early or I'd get overwhelmed.

Any time I play on a water-heavy map, Gungans are always my first choice.
