How Do You Play X-Wing?

By Darth Meanie, in X-Wing

According to your options, mostly Public, standard 100 point dogfight.

Though my Public games are at my local gaming pub, and I don't consider the other players strangers at this point.

Our pub runs leagues and tries to put some non-standard format games into the mix.

I also participate in my local tournament scene. Some are strangers, some I at least recognize from other events.

I used to only game (other gaming, before getting into X-Wing) with friends, but I'm very glad I got out there to play some public games. I play so much more, the X-Wing community is aweseome, and I've grown to appreciate competitive play.

Mostly private, 100/6. But I like playing public, and often go to tournaments when I can.

Mostly public games in standard 100 point format, the occasional tournament, and a weekly vassal game with a friend.

Private 100% so far. Only played against my brother. Just some scenarios and the tourny style matches.

Private 150/6, as a rule.

I usually play basically the same as 100/6 but with 150 points. Always at home or at a friend's house. I've never played in a store, for any game. Only public games I've ever played were a handful of games at conventions and that's pretty uncommon.

Occasionally we play scenarios or 2v2 300 points per side. I'd like to play Epic and HoTAC but haven't been able to swing it yet.

Like a scrub.

I play both privately and public, with a slew of restrictions I place onto what I field.

-Only Empire ships, no First Order.

-Only blue ships, no grey.

-And I only buy ships that I can make a 100 point list of just using those ships that can put up a decent fight.

Even when we are competitive, I stick to being themed. I just tweak my lists based off my restrictions and get as good as I can with them. I find it more fun that way. If I don't enjoy seeing my ships on the table, I don't care how good they are, I won't run them.

50/50 private to public, but I haven't played a game of x-wing in over a year now. Usually standard 100/6.

I want my enthusiasm for the game back. I want all the ships I'm missing. And I want a game store closer than a 30 minute drive away that has x-wing on a night i can attend.

When I can get away, I play standard 100/6 matches at my favorite game store. I play in tournaments at game shops locally, around my home.
As for what I choose to fly, you could say I'm not set to one faction.

To keep sharp, I practice on the X-wing Squadron Benchmark web app.

Mostly public, though I occasionally game with my girlfriend or at a buddy's over beer.

Pretty much strictly 100/6 lists. Our one epic enthusiast moved away :(

But I really like competitive X-wing. It's often I read about how cutthroat, stale, soulless it is, but that's never been my experience. I'm usually in a room with friendly, passionate, creative people.

Yep. I live in the heart of a metropolis, but need to travel 40 minutes to the 'burbs for my "FLGS."

OTOH, I live a 5 minute walk from the opera.

I'm still waiting for a production of Gershwin's "Porkins and Biggs" to hit the stage.

Mostly private - but most of that is tournament practice.

This means 100/6 nearly always, which I like - it's the only one that feels like "real" X-Wing to me. Other game modes can be fun for messing about, but I like to play to improve my tournament game.

Set initiative, place obstacles, planning phase, activation phase, combat phase, end phase, repeat until someone loses.
