Seriously FFG?

By flightmaster101, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I'll just use a 4' x 6' and ensure the players measure up properly to begin with the official size of the board.

I agree with OP, it's a bit frustrating, and there are dozens of cool designs from other companies in 4' x 6'. Those selections are going to be picked up by the couple of players we have, or they will just use one of mine.

I would of bought a cool 3' x 6' from FFG. Their mat quality is quite good.

I didn't read the entire thread so perhaps this has already been said but 3x3 was sold for Armada because they were attempting to meet the demands of both Armada and X-Wing players (who need a 3x3 mat or a 3x6 mat if playing epic). It just made sense to split the mats so that you can put two together when you need them and split them up when you didn't. Additionally most people moving to Armada were already X-Wing players and owned 3x3 mats, it just made sense to buy a second section rather than an entire oversized mat for twice the cost.

Its feasable that in the future Runewars will also have some purpose for a 3x3 space. More importantly as a gamer, I appriciate the flexibility as buying a game mat is rarely done with only one game in mind, I'm always looking for a way to purchase game mats for more than one purpose. After all they are expensive and they are luxary items (not a nescessity). For example a green mat like this I can see myself using for playing card games for two players, in which case. 3x3 mat is the perfect size.

I for one am glad they broke it down like this.

Who knows why they made it 3x3!!! Maybe it's for when they have more hero's out, they will make a Runewars Miniatures skirmish game!!

So at lauch we'll have cores and mats? Cores and expansions at launch would be far, far better.

It is less than ideal that expansions are not out day 1, but they will be out very shortly afterwards. The wait isn't too long.

I also wish they were selling a full 6x3 mat, but my guys are going to be fighting across the deathstar for awhile anyway.

So Space Marines? :D :P

Well at least the Waiqar won't have problems with no air to breath.

It allows versatility of the mats and for them to make more custom mats. It also helps with how small the game will be to start.

I do not like the fact that FFG is only making 3x3 mats, but I saw one on a table yesterday and looked very nice! I ordered two from a local game store because it's still cheaper than others I found online. Does anyone have a pic of the two mats together? I haven't paid for them yet and curious to see how bad it really is.

Even a pic of two Xwing mats together would help me get an impression of what it will be like

Look in the rule book. Pg 23 and 25, I think.

Well, if that's what it looks like there shouldn't be as much complaining as there is. The photo in the rulebook looks good, but it could've been edited. Does anyone ha e a real photo?

I'm looking at my phone. I can see the seam. As long as there is a flat surface there shouldn't be a problem. I have a couple ordered. I'll take a pic when they arrive

I've been shopping for a playmat that plays Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing", so frankly I'm much more disappointed than any of you.

But that aside, I bought a sweet 3x3 playmat from a Ganesha Games Kickstarter last year. I'm kicking myself now for not picking up the 6x4 instead.

I believe in mirACLES! Whatcha waitin fooooor...you sexy thaaaang, sexy thang you!

It could simply be that they only have the capability to print a 3x3 mat in-house.

I mean, its not like their current mat range hasn't had teething issues of their own...

Look up any Armada battle report on Youtube. Honestly, it's fine, there is no issues with 2 mats together. In addition to having no downside, there is the upside that 2 smaller mats are easier to transport and store than 1 big one.

I use two of the X-Wing mats for Armada and they work well. It also helps that I play X-Wing. If you do get the FFG mats, try to play skirmish games along with the main game.

There is a downside of having a seam run down the middle of the play area. While many wont care the slightest, some (me) find it really annoying.

And how on earth is one 3x6 mat more difficult to transport/store then two 3x3?

I'll just use my 6' x 4' mat that I use for Age of Sigmar, Kings of War and 40k with some shelf liner that I've cut to 6" x 6' to delineate the actual table size. Easy peasy.
