Expert Handling

By Cununculus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Expert Handling nowadays reads:

[Action]: you may perform a FREE barrel roll action....

I had always, for years, assumed EH costs you your action.

Now I watch a friend take a Target Lock AND perform a barrel roll, because EH says it's free.

Is he correct ?

Thoughts?

Any card with the "Action" header requires the use of an action.

Expert Handling is an action which permits you to take a Free Barrel Roll Action as part of completing the Expert Handling Action.

Thanks for the swift reply!

I'll have to tell my buddy he's wrong :)

This is a common mistake, and the question has been answered before in this forum. Do a search for Expert Handling and see how many results you get.

I'm thinking this is the second time THIS WEEK that that exact issue has come up.

Your friend is right in that the Barrel Roll from EH is "free" but the problem is that using EH is NOT free and takes his action.

The reason EH was altered was because there were Action issues with its original wording. If you used your Action to EH then you generally didn't have an Action to BR. Although thing was that if EH just told you to Roll there would be nothing stopping you from using a second Action to BR assuming you could take two actions. Right now using EH has a ship taking two actions: one Action is used to activate EH and the second action is the free BR that EH provides.

Since the change over the search engine has gotten more useful. Much more useful.

Was this a response in the wrong thread or rather a comment about how common this topic is?

Saw another thread where a previously respected forum member started posting again after an absence and that response may make sense there but Cununculus has also been a forum member of years.

Just a comment on jmswood's post about doing a search. Before, trying to search anything was a exercise in frustration. Now at least you can get reasonable search results.

To be honest, I gave up on the search engine long time ago and didn't realize with the latest changes it might have improved.

Sorry folks!

(Also massive amounts of tears to see I am 'just' a forum member :P)

I meant no disrespect. Some names I recognize more than others and on of those just started posting again with a "What did I miss?" type post.

No worries, no offense taken ;)

My remark was intended was a good amount of tongue -in- cheek :)
