Short for Fabrication Labratory; typically at a local University, community college or liabrary. Open to the public and they have setup including CAD, 3d Scanner, 3D printer, laser cutter and various other items. Cost and times vary. They are setup for students, business owners and anyone can design, prototype and run small batches of items. I have not had a chance to check out the ones local to me, I have a ton of stuff I want to 3D print and acrylics to cut.

There are some up in Cleveland and down in Columbus, looks pretty sparse near me, I'll have to check it out.

I have a guy for 3D printing and his prices are pretty good. What I really need is plastic injection molding. But that's expensive no matter where you go.

So just as an update, I did find out there's a factory less than a mile away that does custom plastic fabrication, I'm scheduled to get a quote within the week. Thanks for the idea man!

Ok, I've not seen your ideas on this before. Love the idea of the tray actually, though not so much in red, but I would want to see it in a more horizontal configuration. There frequently isn't much room between the playmat and table edge, but 6' of whatever room there is.

As for the new idea, not sure. Would need to see a working product before deciding if it was too fidly or not, but sounds like a neat concept if you can make it work.

Whoa, whoa, whoa....

where are you exactly? I just moved from Akron to north Columbus.

See the older thread I tagged in the OP it should have the horizontal version (green)

Mantua Oh

I'll do that.

Ack. I used to drive through Mantua regularly on my way to a friends house up in Newbury.

Sound like cool ideas. I'm not big on them, but it's because in our games we just toss a dime under each squadron at the start of the game, and then slide the squadrons when moving them instead of picking them up (when possible). That way, when a squadron needs to be picked up to rotate or slide the toggle, or a ship maneuver tool moves 'over' them, you have the dime sitting there marking where to put the squadron back down.

Grew up in North Canton. Also I totally haven't used excessive amounts of orange on my ships...:)

looks good to me. Yeah I see sort of where FFG was trying to go with the information on the table instead of tokens stacked on a card, but trying to reach squadrons sometimes are just too difficult and too easy to bump around when trying to change dials. IMHO this should have been done the first place.

That is actually a VERY smart way!

I like that idea too, and will try it while these gadgets are in production!

This is golden, I'll definitely be giving this a try next game

May be much sooner than I ever expected, I just submitted a set of working drawings to a local fabricator for a quote... if it's less than my initial investment costs to make them myself, than wham, we'll be in production!

Depending on the quote, if you need some extra $ to make it happen, you could ask for donations. I know I'd pitch in.
