The Dusty Nomads IC

By Benjan Meruna, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

"Hold on, they're with us, Officer...?" Mel begins, trying to recapture the man's attention.

His head turns to track the wounded woman, and his gun lowers a fraction. "What?

She smiles wryly at him and holds a hand out to Kara and Shishi, "They're with me, Officer. Coming to my rescue. There was a little... misunderstanding, is all, with these gentleman. You know how it is, voices get raised and it's easy to think that an argument is worse than it really is. Look, I'm barely scratched," she pulls the hem of her shirt up, exposing the burn and a good bit of skin. "A day or two and I'll be as good as ever. Really, it looks worse than it is."

The security guard looks at Melonie, then at Shishi and Kara, and finally up at Rip and Tear at the top of the ramp who are looking sullen and embarrassed. He carefully holsters his weapon, then takes out several dataslates and hands them to Melonie.

"All right. I have one kidnapping, a burglary, three felony indecent exposures, and seven missing person cases on my plate right now, so this is how this is going to go down. You are going to fill these out, all of them, and turn them into the spaceport administration office within the hour. They say that there was a weapon fire incident, but that no one died and no one wants to press any charges, no one is packing anything illegal, yadda yadda yadda. In twenty four hours, there will be a routine inspection on this...craft. If your're still here and I find the slightest irregularity with anything in here, I will throw you and all of your very trigger-happy friends in Detention and charge you with everything under the gorram stars that I can make stick. Capisce, sweetheart?"

"They'll be spellchecked and on time," Mel promises, one hand in the air as she takes the slates. "No problems."

"They'd better," the officer warns as he turns and heads out of the Nomad's docking bay, flanked by his two fellow security.

"That's my girl!"

He high fives her then looks over at other Vic with a cold hard stare.

"You owe the lady for the inconvenience...".

He whispers to Mel, "We need to get these two aboard and into the smuggling holds pronto, and get the frell outta here, and onto that Hutt business..."

Melonie breathes a sigh of relief, looking at the dataslates in dismay. "Alright, everyone on board. You two, hand over your weapons."

"Here, I'll handle those data slates Mel, it's the least I can do after that little bit of fast talking. But we have a timeline now, 24 hours to either have a clean ship of be gone... we better get in contact with this Hutt quickly" Shishi takes the data slates and starts heading up the boarding ramp, a bit of work ahead of him. "Hey Kara, nice shooting, these two ruffians didn't stand a chance!"

But its at that moment he reaches the top of the ramp and finds his three Droids. He stops dead in his tracks "Ahh ****, there goes hours of work... you losers will regret this" SOM-3 beeps loudly and waves his wrench in the face of Rip

"Beep, squeak, bing, boop"

"Yes M3 we need to drag all these parts back inside, this is why you need to listen harder. Alright, you start picking up the pieces and I'll drag the biggest pieces, put them all up on the work bench... I need to find a more durable way to put you boys together."

With the hope that his last remaining Droid will actually help Shishi gets to work on the paperwork

"Rip, that's your name right? What's your 'place of residence?" ... "right, not the talking type? That's ok, we have ways"

The fight has clearly gone out of Beaten Vic and his minions. With their weapons confiscated and any hope of intervention from starport security dashed, they seem resigned to their fates as the crew of the Nomad decides how to proceed.

Kara scoops her slug-thrower off the ground and puts it back into its holster. She smiles at Shishi's comment, "No they didn't" she replied "but I think that some of the credit goes to you, and the droids..." she trailed off seeing what was left of them, seeing that Shishi and the remaining droid could handle the remains of the others, she turns to Mel and Vic. Pausing until the Weequays are out of ear shot "Do you think that we can persuade any of them to tell us where the Hutt is, or do we just have to find it ourselves?"

Mel frowns at Kara's words, "If they don't work for him, they may not know. Thanks, Shishi, I appreciate it. Hey, did that bounty posting have a bounty amount or contact information? Something to way where to turn it in, if not the authorities?"

Over his shoulder Shishi replies "Well the Hutts name was there, and we already need to see him, so i'm sure it wont be that hard to track down. I can look it up on my datapad if your incapable..." before the snide remark has completely settled Shishi has already pulled his data pad up onto the work bench and started typing, looking through the local repositories for an address or contact details for Gruggan.

Melonie frowns, "I didn't ask you to look it up, Shishi. I asked of we already had it. The rest of us didn't see the bounty notice, remember."

"Watch yo back sheesh! She just got her first taste of blood, she ain't taking no poodoo now!"

He has a nice big belly laugh, much less tense after whooping some ass.

"Is that Hutt planetside here or... ?"

The light of the screen casts an odd glow on Shishi's face as he continues the banter "Oh settle down, of course I'll do it for you, anyway it looks like he has a residence here, but let me try finding out if we can organise a meeting in advance" a wry smile crosses the small leathery face of the Gossam as he turns and gives Mel a big wink.

"Try looking for casinos that advertise on-site credit exchange," Mel tells Shishi. "If they take more than Imperial credits, good odds it's a laundering business. Especially if they advertise a percentage cash out fee instead of a flat rate."

"Casinos you say, ok..." Shishi types away quickly checking through lists of registered businesses. "Theres one here, looks like it fits that profile, they definitely take all kinds of cred... hmm says they are registered to a company that looks dodgy as hell, SCNTR Corp, who knows what that acronym stands for... but the directors name, its..."

"Scoontel Brangan, a Togruta male. Let me just run a quick check on that... hmm looks like a few businesses in his name. Theres a message board on that casinos page, should i just ask there?"

The look of plain embarrassment on Mel's face tells Shishi before she even has a chance to speak that his idea was not cool. "Alright alright, what then? We got a name, where is the dude?" Suddenly a better search result pops up in front of them, "Ha! The Togrutan has an 'about me' page with a listing of a club as the 'place to meet' for any personal dealings... looks like he likes women as much as you do Lil Vic"

"A club?" Mel frowns, "He might not be there until late this evening then." She glances at the prisoners, "And we can't really bring them with, to a club. Maybe one of us should go and see if we can get a contact number from the business manager?"

"Probably a good idea, it would be good to get rid of these things sooner rather than later"

"So who wants to watch over these thugs, and who is getting more details on our money pouch?"

"Is there a way to secure the smuggling holds on this rust bucket?"

He says not wanting to be picked to stay back, thinking a nice romp in a casino would make a good end to the day.

"I'm... not sure," Mel admits. "There's two hatches, so both would need to be locked. And there's no way to see inside to keep an eye on them."

"Why youze lookin at me like that?, No... No... No way I ain't playin babysitter. No I'm getting a drink at the bar."

Vic shakes his head furiously...

"Nope... Ain't happening!"
