Imagine if X-Wing were a hybrid LCG/Miniatures Game?

I think having extra card packs that only contained cards would be a good thing. You could add new pilots, cards, etc... without needing to make a new pack with that miniature.

Or even just packs containing cards found in other packs that could save some $$$. Even themed packs would be cool.

Aces Support Pack: contains 3 PTL, 3 Auto thrusters, 3 Stealth Devices, 3 VI, and maybe some unique titles.

X-wing already IS a miniatures LCG game. You buy models you don't want or need, for included cards.

It is better than opening a pack to hope that the card you need is randomly in that pack full of cards you don't need because you already have several of them.

Fortunately, that was not the original poster's suggestion, as far as I can tell, although I know people who have said they'd like to see "random upgrade packs" which probably would kill X-Wing for many.

I'd really wonder how these "upgrade packs" would work. What's a booster of MtG go for these days and what does it get you? I seem to remember $1-$3 for a pack of 15 cards although that's no guarantee you'd actually get anything you could use. If not randomize I really don't see how FFG could turn a profit on card packs without alienating a large number of customers and stores.

I'm not quite clear on how your idea differs from the old idea of card only packs. What aspects of the "living card game" model do you see as different from "card only packs"?
